Enterprise Records and Health Information has an outstanding opportunity for an Inpatient Coding Lead.
WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE, 100% Remote
  • Days
  • Mondays - Fridays
    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Implements the mission and goals of Enterprise Records and Health Information, and incorporating a "patients are first" service culture
  • Responsible for assigning and instructing the work of the Coding Specialists who perform daily activities related to of abstract Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) facility Inpatient coding and billing
  • Assists in analyzing the medical record to assign International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Clinical Modification (CM) diagnoses and Procedure Coding System (PCS) procedure codes to ensure correct code assignment and optimal reimbursement in compliance with state and federal guidelines
    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
  • Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI) is a Shared Service Department that supports all aspects of the patient medical record from governance, integrity, documentation timeliness, completion, clinical coding, billing, release, and tracking to management of access, retention, and destruction.
  • ERHI provides advice and resources related to the lifecycle management of all UW Medicine records
  • ERHI is an integral part of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and has a unique role in the organization that supports both clinical and operational activities.
    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists the Inpatient Coding Supervisor in the direction of the workflow of Inpatient Coders and the coordination of Inpatient Coding activities to ensure successful day to day operations of the team
  • Assigns and schedules work to the Inpatient Coders in Epic to meet defined timely coding goals for each division or service area.
  • Prepares and sends daily Inpatient Coding Virtual Huddle with team status, current volumes, coding assignments and priority accounts to Coders.
  • Prepares and send daily Leadership Summary to Coding Leadership with team status summary, current volumes and previous day(s) Coder productivity
  • Reviews and resolves Inpatient coding edits related to procedures and services coded by the Inpatient Coders by reviewing all available electronic and other appropriate documentation within Cerner and monitors Epic work queue trends and escalates to Coding Leadership impacts to timely coding, and avoidable delays for billing and reimbursement.
  • Assists in identifying performance deficiencies related to quality and productivity.
  • Assists with the Coding Education Analyst team with the development and training of new Inpatient Coding staff, as appropriate.
    REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years coding experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC).
