Join ICF in a new laboratory facility with current instrumentation in support of a contract with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Region 9 Laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon.
ICF is seeking an Inorganic Environmental Chemist to lead a group of 3-5 technicians and chemists on our team to support the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) contract. This team performs analyses and provides technical and quality assurance (QA) support to the EPA Superfund and other programs to facilitate the identification, assessment, remediation, and regulation of environmental hazards. The team performs soil, water, air, waste, and tissue sample analysis for chemical contaminants using EPA-approved methods. The team supports EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment through programs such as the Drinking Water programs, Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Superfund (CERCLA), and many other programs that require the analysis of environmental samples such as groundwater, soil, waste for land disposal, and drinking water.
What you will do:
  • Ensure compliance with all technical, quality assurance, and health & safety requirements,
  • Provide technical input to and technical oversight of the work performed,
  • Schedule, track and report assignments and work products,
  • Supervise technical staff including personnel selection, training, and evaluation,
  • Engage our client on technical issues in the laboratory,

What you will need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or physical science,
  • 8+ years of experience performing and/or managing inorganic preparation and analysis of environmental samples using SW-846, CLP (Contract Laboratory Program) or APHA/AWWA/WEF Standard Methods. This experience must include,
    • 2+ years of experience supervising an environmental analysis group,
    • 1+ years of experience and proficiency with data acquisition, processing, review and reporting via instrument software and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS),
    • 1+ years of experience in a NELAC, A2LA or DOECAP accredited environmental laboratory,
    • 2+ years' experience with employee performance evaluation and management,
  • Must be authorized to work in the US (United States),
  • Must be able to pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property,

What we would love for you to have:
  • Recent "hands on" experience with several of the following categories of instrumentation and techniques: ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy), ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry), CVAA (Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption), IC (Ion Chromatography), TOC (Total Organic Carbon, FIA (Flow Injection Analysis), hot block digestion and micro distillation,
  • Leadership role in obtaining and maintaining TNI/NELAC or ISO 17025 accreditation in an environmental laboratory,
  • Experience with Promium Element LIMS,
  • Prior experience working on federal contracts or on-site at a client facility,
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing Root Cause Analysis and implementing Corrective Actions,
  • Recent experience with analytical method development for environmental samples,

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
$62,416.00 - $106,108.00
