Job description

Infusion Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

Promote safe delivery of quality patient care services in alternate care settings. To coordinate the provision of patient care services which reflect HomeTown Infusion policies and procedures and current standards of infusion nursing practice.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Valid, current RN license in the state of Michigan
  • Minimum of two (2) years acute hospital experience which included IV therapy skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical assessment and IV therapy skills
  • Valid, current driver’s license
  • Evidence of current automobile insurance
  • Current CPR certification
  • Experience in home care (preferred)
  • Team-leading or case management skills (preferred)
  • Specialty certification:
  • Infusion Nurses Society (INS) – CRNI
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) – OCN
  • American Association of Critical Care Nurses (CCRN)
  • Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) – CEN

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assure safe delivery of nursing services in alternative care settings:

  • Active participation in ongoing, interdisciplinary communication specific to each patient with review of patient status and plan of care
  • Directing and organizing ancillary care as appropriate.
  • Adherence to HomeTown Infusion policies and procedures regarding medical record documentation and performance improvement activities.

Implements current nursing practice:

  • Patient clinical assessments are completed as appropriate and communicated to other team members.
  • Nursing interventions are implemented to meet patient’s needs and in accordance with physician orders.
  • Physician orders are accurately received, implemented and evaluated for patient outcome in a timely manner.
  • Patients are appropriately referred to other healthcare support systems or community resources based upon identified needs.
  • Referral information is documented accurately, in a timely manner, and shared with other team members.
  • Skilled nursing care is implemented and monitored per HomeTown Infusion policies and procedures.
  • Patient’s status and ongoing needs at time of discharge are communicated to the appropriate individuals.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned in a timely manner and completed accurately.
  • Assumes responsibility for nursing services on weekends and after-hours on-call as assigned.
  • Advanced Care RN is on-call for emergencies and after-hour visits as necessary.
  • Promotes effective written and verbal communication.
  • Positive work environment is promoted for other staff members.
  • Timely communication regarding changes in patient’s plan of care to other team members is demonstrated.
  • Consistent and appropriate lines of authority are maintained.
  • Participates in special committee meetings as required.
  • Cooperates with other healthcare team members and the Director of Operations pursuant to HomeTown Infusion philosophy and objectives.
  • Participates in HomeTown Infusion events (e.g., seminars, inservices, community activities, etc.) and other CE programs to promote professional growth with documented inservice development, implementation and attendance in personnel file.

Gives accurate information to patients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers regarding HomeTown Infusion services and associated costs:

  • Knowledge of Hometown Infusion policies and procedure and regulations regarding reimbursement for nursing and pharmacy services is demonstrated.
  • Consultation with Reimbursement Specialists regarding initial and ongoing reimbursement status of patients.

Provides information regarding equipment and supply needs of the HomeTown Infusion office:

  • Information regarding equipment and supply needs is submitted to the Director of Operations in a timely manner.
  • Recommendations for capital expenditures are submitted in a timely manner to the Director of Operations.
  • Participates in the implementation and monitoring of the HomeTown Infusion budget to ensure operations within approved limits.

Uses equipment and supplies effectively and efficiently:

  • Demonstrates cost-effective and accurate use of equipment and supplies.
  • Consults with fellow staff members or HomeTown Infusion regarding appropriate, accurate, and cost-effective use of supplies and equipment.
  • Information regarding malfunctioning equipment, defective or inadequate supplies is reported to the appropriate individuals and documented per HomeTown Infusion policies.
  • Written and verbal instructions are given to patients and caregivers regarding effective, efficient and appropriate use of equipment and supplies.

Participates in salary programs following HomeTown Infusion policies and procedures:

  • Time sheet documentation is accurate and submitted timely per HomeTown Infusion policy and procedure.
  • Mileage is documented appropriately per HomeTown Infusion policies.

Complies with HomeTown Infusion policies and procedures:

  • Need for changes in HomeTown Infusion administrative and clinical policies is communicated to Director of Operations as needed.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of emergency preparedness plan.
  • Participates in staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Participates in staff needs assessment as directed.
  • Identifies patient, caregiver, and community education needs.
  • Demonstrates current knowledge regarding professional career development in the delivery of infusion nursing services.
  • Demonstrates review of current professional literature.
  • Attends seminars and CEU opportunities on an ongoing basis to promote growth and effective performance.
  • Infusion Specialist shall be responsible for working hours necessary to complete assigned duties within established parameters.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  • Light lifting – up to 25 lbs. maximum
  • Reaching & handling – extending hands and arms, working with hands.
  • Verbal communication – expressing or exchanging ideas through spoken word in person, via telephone and internet
  • Auditory – perceiving sounds in person and telephonically
  • Vision – obtaining impressions visually of the shape, size, distance, motion, color, or other characteristics of objects.
  • Exposure to the following environmental conditions:
  • Inside-protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Outside-Possibly exposed to outside weather conditions while performing job duties.
