Seeking an Infection Preventionist II, participates in the development, implementation, and coordination of an ongoing program for surveillance, prevention and control of infections among patients, employees, visitors and medical staff. 

In this role, Infection Preventionist II will:

  • Serves as an expert resource to Infection Preventionists and other MHS departments.
  • Implements the MHS wide implementation of infection surveillance and prevention program by actively participating in system level committees. 
  • Analyses complex infection prevention and performance improvement data, develops solutions, makes recommendation and implements changes to prevent healthcare associated infections and improve patient safety. 
  • Oversees the review and revision of existing MHS infection prevention policies tomaintain currency and compliance with published guidelines and best practices, where applicable, with emphasis on impact on critical hospital and system operations and functions. 
  • Coordinates with other MHS departments to facilitate implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of the infection prevention program in order to maintain continual readiness in meeting regulatory and accreditation requirements 
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal regulation and guidelines regarding infection prevention matters, as well as requirements by accrediting and licensing bodies.
Minimum Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: Seven years of infection prevention experience required with bachelors degree in public health, nursing, epidemiology or other health-care related field (e.g, biology, chemistry, biostatistics), or four years of infection prevention experience with masters degree in a health care related field. 
  • Two years of recent infection prevention experience in an acute care hospital setting required. Working knowledge of statistics and epidemiological principles required. Computer skills required include proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, power point and graphic display programs, as well as a level of comfort with learning and adapting to new programs. 
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable). 

Preferred: Post-graduate courses in epidemiology, infection prevention or disease control preferred. Completion of CDC or APIC sponsored infection prevention training desirable. Supervisory and managerial experience desirable. 

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required

  • Required: Current Certification in Infection Prevention and Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
