Summary
The Infection Preventionist for Salem Hospital (SH) is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Infection Prevention functions of SH IC, one of the site teams of MGB Infection Control. The Infection Preventionist, reporting to the Director of Infection Control at MGB, must have knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control principles and practice, the ability to make evidence-based decisions, excellent problem-solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Infection Control, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or another relevant field is acceptable.
2. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire, must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire.
3. Current Massachusetts’ licensure as a registered nurse preferred but not required.
4. Minimum 3 years of related work experience required.
5. Knowledge and experience in:
a. regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control
b. implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections
c. application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others
Special Requirements
1. Must be available to work in the case of a facility-declared emergency.
2. Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews.
3. Must be available to work on-site.
