Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Education or related field, OR CDA
- Minimum 1 year experience in Early Childhood Education
- Proficient understanding of child development
Primary Purpose:
- Our Step 2 Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the lead teacher in the education of our toddler age students. The Teacher Assistant will help implement developmentally appropriate activities. The main priority of the Teacher Assistant is to support the safety of our students in daily activities.
Major Duties:
- Supports implementation of educational programs for children with hearing loss and speech delay
- Supports lead teacher with required data collection on all students.
- Assists in monitoring and documenting student progress, attendance, and behavior.
- Participates in three parent conferences a year.
- Develops and adapts lesson plans to support individual student needs.
- Assumes direct responsibility for students during school hours.
Work Activities:
- Lesson Planning and Data Tracking
- Turn in lessons and notes weekly using formal and informal assessments; keep up to date data on each student in developmental areas and academic skills.
- Parent Communication
- Communicates with parents regarding student behavior, progress in class, and items needed for school; Contact parents via phone, Brightwheel, or email in the event of a child emergency, illness, other related issues.
- Student Supervision and Daily Needs
- Maintains active supervision of students when on duty during class time, lunch, transitions, recess, etc.
- Completes daily hearing device checks of student equipment and troubleshoots accordingly.
- Supervises bathroom needs and provides toileting assistance as needed including, but not limited to, diapering and changing soiled clothes, etc.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Participates in teacher meetings, all staff meetings, and other work activities.
- Coordinates activities for volunteers and substitutes assigned to the classroom.
- Attend field trips and other school functions throughout the year.
Basic Competencies:
- Excellent oral and written use of English language, comprehensive understanding of typical child development, collaboration skills, ability to utilize all Microsoft Office programs, professional and collaborative mentality
Technology Knowledge:
- Laptop computers, FM system, tablet, interactive whiteboard, scanner, laminator, printer, copier, phone
Specific Skills:
- Organizational skills, classroom management, composure in stressful situations, patience when handling children, diagnostic teaching skills, flexibility during schedule changes and special events
Working Conditions:
- Walking, sitting on the floor and in low chairs, standing for long periods of time, frequent stooping, bending, ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to maintain emotional control at all times.
