Job description

REPORTS TO:

Center Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

The Classroom Teacher will provide a nurturing and safe environment for infants and toddlers to develop and reach age appropriate milestones by planning, preparing and implementing a variety of learning activities for children from birth to 3 years old. The teacher will verbally engage with the infants and toddlers throughout the day in addition to incorporating play activities. The teacher will be responsible for training new staff hired to work in the classroom.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Minimum education is a high school diploma.

Associates of Arts degree in Early Childhood Development is preferred.

Prior experience as a teacher or teacher’s assistant in early childhood, elementary education setting or other related field.

Current CPR certification through AHA.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom Assistant

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Thorough understanding of classroom procedures and management.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to collaborate and communicate with ECSE teachers, therapists, parents, and students in a positive and constructive way.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Proficient with Google Suite or related software.

Displaying a patient and calm personality coupled with a loving approach to every child.

An understanding of child development

Ability to plan routines for children that are age appropriate

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Guiding babies and toddlers through age appropriate education/development programs.

Contributing positively to the behavior and social interaction of the children.

Building secure relationships with the children.

Maintain regular and continuous liaison with the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, Center Coordinator, Case Manager, and Executive Director to keep him/her informed of significant events in the program, staffing, and personnel, community and family issues.

Completing screenings, classroom based assessments, BDI’s, and IFSP’s within the time frame on the Multidisciplinary Team Plan.

Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.

Utilizing Bright Wheel software to take attendance and communicate with parents/guardians

Reporting accidents, illness, and unusual behavior of children to the Center Coordinator and parents/guardians.

Maintaining a clean and healthy classroom environment, which facilitates learning and development.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 33% sitting, 33% walking, 34% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature extremes but with exposure to bodily secretions and fluids.
