SUMMARY: If you are a creative and dedicated person who would like the opportunity to contribute to a positive classroom and make an impact on our children and community, this position might be for you! Working with children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years (depending on classroom assignment). Teachers maintain safe supervision and sanitary practices at all times, and promote the development of children according to Childcare licensing standards as well as the standards of the Child Development Center (CDC). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Punctual and reliable attendance, including the ability to open a classroom at 7am or close a classroom until 6pm if scheduled
  • Maintain positive working relationships with parents, and report on their child’s progress, development, and daily activities
  • Learn and use Boys & Girls Club positive guidance techniques appropriate to your age group including consistent positive feedback and relationship building, zoning classroom areas, counting children before, during and after transitions, redirecting unwanted behavior, etc.
  • Work with individual children who need more support, or different support than a typically behaving child, including leading parent meetings or conducting assessments of child’s development to support parents, school district, or pediatrician
  • Follow all licensing standards including maintaining adult to child ratios, consistently implementing the routine, maintaining children’s daily records, and having meaningful child focused interactions in the classroom
  • Maintain and keep a clean and sanitary classroom at all times, and assist in upkeep of all child care areas as required
  • Set and work towards yearly professional development goals based on appropriate Tier of Alaska’s Core Knowledge & Competencies (AK CKC’s)
  • Attend required trainings for child care licensing, Learn & Grow, and as assigned
Requirements:

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Child care experience preferred, strong interest and enjoyment of working with children required
  • Ability to make decisions and take responsibility for maintaining the safety of children at all times
  • Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification
  • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check

TIERED TEACHER WAGE RANGES

(Teacher levels are assigned based on required skills & knowledge)

Teacher I

Wage Range: $17.00 - $19.00

Education & Knowledge:

  • GED or High School Diploma preferred

Teacher II

Wage Range: $19.00 -$22.00

Education & Knowledge:

  • 1-year minimum of total early education experience required
  • 60 hours towards CDA and willingness to complete within 1 year required
  • 6 Early Childhood Education credits from a University/College, or an equivalency of a current Child Development Credential (CDA) preferred

Teacher III

Wage Range: $22.00 - $25.00

Education & Knowledge:

  • 2- years minimum of total early education experience required
  • Completed and current CDA required, or successful renewal of credential within 3 months
  • Early Childhood Education OEC or 18 ECE university or college credits preferred

Teacher IV

Wage Range: $26.00 - $29.00

Education & Knowledge:

  • 3-year minimum of total early education experience required
  • Early Childhood Education OEC or 18 ECE university or college credits required
  • AA or BA in Early Childhood Education preferred

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, crouch, sit, talk, see and hear. Employees for this position are also required to be able to repetitively lift up to forty pounds to perform the daily functions of the job or maintain child safety. Work Environment

The work environment is a busy setting with occasional interruptions occurring, including visits from children, parents & staff. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work outside in daily weather conditions with children. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud. The priority of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska is the physical and emotional safety of its members, staff and volunteers. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse, and implement strict policies and procedures for members, employees, volunteers, visitors or victims of abuse or misconduct to report any suspicion or allegation of abuse. In addition, we train all adults within our Clubs on the responsibilities of Mandated Reporting, red-flag behaviors, and to report any behavior that is prohibited within our policies, including one to one contact between a child and adult, any unwanted or otherwise prohibited physical contact, and other inappropriate activities that are not considered professional. All employees and volunteers are required to cooperate with any investigation of abuse, and must have the ability to pass all local, state, national and international background checks before they are eligible for hire, and each year thereafter.
