Wilcox Academy of Early Learning is currently accepting applications to join our professional teaching team as we continue to grow our 4-star early learning centers that provide enriched early childhood education to the children of New Orleans.
Work Environment and Expectations:
WAEL views each child as an individual with a unique developmental profile and provides learning across a variety of developmental areas. Through teacher’s interactions & techniques and critical approaches to age appropriate programing through play, WAEL serves children age 8 weeks to 4 years old. WAEL teachers focus is on families & relationships, environment, supervision, health and safety, curriculum, teaching, child assessment, behavior & guidance, professional development, and collaboration.
The mission of WAEL is to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children. Teachers are responsible to give our little people the confidence and the tools that will guide them on their life’s journey. In addition, teachers develop partnerships with parents and guardians to keep the parents connected to the classroom activities.

Wilcox Academy Infant and Toddler Co-Teacher are responsible for the care, supervision and management of a class of Infants and Toddlers (8 weeks – 36 months age) in accord with the goals and curriculum plan of WAEL. The principal duties of the Infant/Teacher include: conduct focused observations of children, develop action plans, carry out activities on a daily basis and evaluate the effectiveness of child development activities, ensure the safety and well-being of the children, maintain regular communication with parents, and contribute to the effective operation of the overall early care and education center. Teachers are also responsible for assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies and partnerships; and works collaboratively with other staff members of WAEL.
Responsibilities:
• Promote WAEL mission in all work and provide an environment where Wilcox’s Academy of Early Learning philosophy can foster.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.
• Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.
• Provide excellent customer service according to the standards of WAEL by being customer service oriented and professional.
• Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.
• Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times.
• Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, and hand washing).
• Create and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for every child.
• Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times.
• Sanitize classroom equipment by following timeline and checklist.
• Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children.
• Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance.
General pay and provisions:
• 40-hour work week with hours available between 7 am and 5:30 pm
• Competitive compensation commensurate with education and experience
• Benefits available: paid holidays, vacation, and sick days.
Hourly Rate: $14 or more with Early Childhood Credentials (CDA or Higher degree)
