Job Description

At CoBank, our Industry Analyst uses analytical and communication skills to support CoBank's Knowledge Exchange Division (KED) in its various industry research and customer engagement activities. Writes clearly and concisely to explain complex economic phenomena. Works independently and in partnership with team members to deliver timely, customized industry and economic research reports, videos, webinars, and presentations for internal decision makers, customers, and business partners. Supports senior KED analysts by maintaining databases, creating presentations, conducting economic analysis, organizing webinars, etc. Builds upon existing subject matter expertise to develop a broad understanding of the economic interaction among KED's primary areas of research which include macroeconomics, agribusiness, energy, and food manufacturing. Contributes industry insights to high-level discussions with senior CoBank and customer executives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintaining up-to-date understanding of industry events and trends in order to advise/inform on relevant trends and market conditions impacting the bank and customers.
  • Creating and maintaining industry databases and related visual presentations of information (graphs, tables, etc.) in order to support KED staff and other bank partners.
  • Writing insightful reports, briefing materials, and recommendations regarding industry trends, structural changes, and policy initiatives for internal and external audiences.
  • Generating social media and video content, and responding to media requests related to KED research areas.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations, and participating in internal and external speaking engagements as appropriate.
  • Developing and maintaining a broad network of contacts in field(s) of expertise.
  • Representing the bank before key stakeholders and the general public in a variety of settings.
  • Participating in special projects and performing other duties as assigned. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in economics, agriculture, business, finance, statistics or other related discipline.
  • Three years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: agriculture economics, economics, agriculture, finance, statistics, Ag Journalism, agronomy,  or other related disciplines 
  • Master's degree or PhD in lieu of experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following: agriculture, food & agribusiness, macroeconomics, energy, or forest products.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of associates, management, customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in applying economic theory and statistical analysis to real-world situations.
  • Strong analytical skills, preferably with coursework in and practical application of econometric techniques.
  • Proven ability to write clearly and concisely to synthesize information leading to meaningful conclusions.
  • Experienced with presentations and public speaking.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience within the Farm Credit System a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

Compensation Information

  • Estimated Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
  • Target short-term incentive opportunity: 10%
