Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing diverse tasks to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production equipment and facilities, in accordance with productive, predictive and safety maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of goals and manufacturing objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, pneumatic tools, transportation systems, and production machines.
- Develop viable and safe machine uptime solutions to eliminate downtime and promote uptime and safety.
- Passion for training others in the safe operation of equipment; Work with frontline team to maximize safety/total uptime.
- Install motors, gearboxes, shafts, sprockets, conveyors, ducts and pipes, as well as mechanical/electrical controls.
- Troubleshoot and repair faulty components
- Complete daily early morning machine setup of production equipment for safe and efficient operation for the equipment.
- Ability to select suppliers and complete orders for maintenance supplies, including parts, spares, consumables and other equipment necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the machine.
- Complete TPM basics including cleaning, lubrication, inspection, repair and general as required by SOPs.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all equipment as documented by the OEM, including bearings, pumps, motors, conveyors, size reduction equipment, packaging equipment, blades, fans, and remaining equipment;
- Document all maintenance/repair actions.
- Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening to problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Eliminate defective parts by disassembling the devices; use hand and power tools.
- Examine the shape and texture of the pieces.
- Determine changes in part dimensional requirements by inspecting used parts and adjusting functional parts of instruments and control devices using appropriate tools.
- Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as necessary to achieve job results.
- Control downtime by informing management of routine preventive maintenance techniques.
- Maintain continuity between work teams by documenting and communicating ongoing actions, irregularities, and needs.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by complying with all supporting CGMP, SQF and HACCP programs.
- Contribute to team effort by achieving related results as necessary.
Requirements:
- Ability to follow routine verbal and established procedural instructions.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to understand and demonstrate lockout/tagout procedures
- Organization and time management.
- Physical stamina to stand/walk for extended hours at a time with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- High school diploma/GED and vocational/trade school certification preferred or equivalent experience in production maintenance.
- 5+ years of equipment/manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills; PLC an advantage.
- High degree of demonstrated/proven experience in troubleshooting and troubleshooting; ideally in a food processing facility and a proven track record of repairing equipment and developing corrective actions to minimize future failure modes and machine downtime.
- Technical zeal and problem-solving ability with high levels of initiative.
- Knowledge of electrical tools and equipment, measuring instruments, etc., as well as common sense safety practices.
- Coordinated and dexterous, ability to work in physically demanding positions and able to lift 50 pounds.
- Mechanical acuity, good mathematical skills and computer knowledge.
