Position Title: Individual and Planned Gift Officer
Reports to: Vice President of Advancement
Status: Exempt
Salary: $63,000 plus benefits, including generous PTO

Over the last 5 years, we have increased membership in our leadership circle by more than 30% and we’ve seen double-digit growth in overall fundraising. In addition, we are in the quiet phase of Hope in Action, our $17.5 million comprehensive campaign that has been launched to meet the needs of our participants in the six neighborhoods we serve.
The Neighborhood House Gift Planning Officer will be a member of our Advancement team and be part of creating the future that will enable the organization to support the families we serve. Neighborhood House has a staff of nearly 80 people, thirteen of them in our Advancement department. We are a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about our work and the families and neighborhoods we serve. We like to roll up our sleeves and collaborate in our attempt to solve big problems. We believe that innovation and risk lead to learning and success.
Who We Are Looking For:
You care deeply about our community and the families who participate in programs at Neighborhood House, holding them in the center of all that you do. You are knowledgeable of and skilled in using equity as a process and an outcome of your work to disrupt systemic social patterns that make it difficult for families to succeed. You have a strong affinity for Neighborhood House’s mission and are not only prepared, but excited to achieve this vision for and with our community. You enjoy meeting new people and connecting them to our important work taking place in St. Paul. You are excited by the challenge of asking for financial support from prospective donors.
Responsibilities Overview:
  • Effectively engage a portfolio of 100-120 individual donors with the capacity and propensity to make annual, major, and Planned Gifts at the $5,000 level and above. Develop and implement highly tailored engagement strategies for these supporters, be responsible for all aspects of relationship management, including qualification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation and stewardship within your portfolio.
  • Working with the Vice President of Advancement, develop and implement a long-range plan to promote and solicit bequests, trusts, and other planned/deferred gifts that is coordinated with and complementary to other activities of the overall Development plan. Set and achieve goals to grow our Planned Gift society the 1897 Legacy Circle.
  • Provide expertise in all estate and non-cash asset gifts to the organization.
  • Envision and, in coordination with colleagues, create regular mailings, advertising, and other promotional activities to generate leads and cultivate Planned Gift commitments. Responsible for management and marketing of FreeWill online platform.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other planned giving and allied professionals, such as financial planners and advisors, attorneys, and bankers from prospect/donor referrals and via local planned giving professional affiliations. Manage the Planned Gift Advisory Council of committed volunteers of estate planning professionals.
  • Work with other Gift Officers, vice president of advancement, president & CEO, and the campaign planning committee to implement strategies for donors assigned to their portfolios, where appropriate.
  • Work with the entire team to meet and strive to surpass both restricted and unrestricted revenue goals. Safeguard sensitive information, and protect donor confidence.
  • Create and lead special gift planning opportunities, such as legacy challenges.
  • Track portfolio activity and progress, create reports as required by management.
  • Prepare written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations, and any other materials needed to secure and document major and Planned Gifts.
  • Participate in Neighborhood House events and activities as needed.
Skills and Experiences of the Ideal Candidate:
  • Skilled at successfully cultivating, soliciting, and closing major and Planned Gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • Three or more years in philanthropic resource development with a focus on gift planning.
  • Ability to motivate people to increasing levels of generosity and manage multiple relationships to the point of and through solicitation.
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and active listening.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a complex, collaborative, consensus-driven, environment.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic direction related to establishing a compelling vision for fundraising initiatives while taking initiative and using good judgment; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • A commitment to a workplace that values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstances; willingness to model intercultural competence.
  • Project management and organization skills; ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail; ability to handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce timely, accurate work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, comfortable working in an office environment and offsite.
