OVERVIEW:

The purpose of the Indirect Underwriter position is to analyze and make credit decisions within established lending guidelines to support achievement of Credit Union’s loan portfolio growth and profitability objectives. This position has no budgetary responsibility, but decisions may have a minor impact, has limited supervisor over its work, and requires analysis in order to perform its job functions.


The Indirect Underwriter is responsible for performing credit analyses on loan applications, assessing risks, rendering decisions, promoting products and services, providing customer service, and assisting in special testing and audit projects. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring compliance within internal policies and regulatory standards, identifying loan restructuring opportunities for members, cross-selling, testing system updates, assisting in auditing preparations, and mentoring new or junior lending associates.


EDUCATION :

  • General and business knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Required to register and maintain a unique identifier with the Nationwide Mortgage
Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) in compliance with the Secure and Fair
Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (“SAFE Act”). This must be renewed
on an annual basis from November 1 to December 31. Must also record any changes
(name, address, or any outdated or inaccurate information) within 30 days with the
NMLS Registry

EXPERIENCE:

  • 6 months-2 years of experience in consumer lending
  • 6 months - 2 years in a consumer lending underwriter capacity

SKILLS:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and applicable software skills
  • Skills and in-depth knowledge of credit/underwriting theory and practice

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Visually able to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
  • Ability to sit for extended time periods
  • Sufficient manual skill for operation of PC keyboard and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to travel, including occasional overnight travel
  • Ability to exert minimum amounts of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects
