Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Respite Worker to provide support and care for individuals with behavioral challenges and developmental disabilities in need of respite services. As a Behavioral Respite Worker, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those you assist. This is a rewarding position that requires patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to various care settings while addressing behavioral needs effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Provide behavioral respite care services to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes or care facilities
- Implement strategies to address challenging behaviors effectively and ensure the safety of both the individual and others present
- Collaborate with supervisors, behavior analysts, and family members to develop and implement behavior support plans tailored to individual needs
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, utilizing behavioral techniques to promote cooperation and independence
- Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and document accurately, incorporating behavioral strategies to facilitate medication compliance
- Prepare meals and ensure dietary needs are met, utilizing behavioral approaches to promote healthy eating habits and mealtime routines
- Engage in structured activities with clients to promote socialization, emotional regulation, and skill development, incorporating behavioral interventions as needed
- Monitor and report any changes in the client's behavior or emotional state, collaborating with the support team to adjust strategies as necessary
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for clients, implementing behavior management techniques to prevent crises and promote positive interactions
Experience:
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required, with a strong emphasis on behavioral interventions and crisis management techniques
- Familiarity with behavioral support strategies such as applied behavior analysis (ABA), positive behavior support (PBS), and trauma-informed care
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions, with an understanding of how they may impact behavior and emotional regulation
- Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities, with a focus on building rapport and trust
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to crisis situations, with a commitment to maintaining client safety and dignity
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including behavior analysts, therapists, and medical professionals
- Proficiency in documenting observations and implementing behavior support plans, with a focus on data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement
