Job description

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks an Education Intern to support WWF’s Wild Classroom program to build the capacity of educators by developing environmental education resources and opportunities that inspire, engage, and increase the environmental literacy of children in grades K-12.

Responsibilities

This position will play an active role in the development, distribution, and upkeep of current and newly created educational materials and the implementation of tactics to help the Wild Classroom team meet their programmatic goals.

  • Assist with the strategy, creation, and development of engaging and inclusive educational resources and opportunities such as written curriculum, video tutorials, interactive events, student materials (readings, games, quizzes), and more. This could include working directly with members of WWF’s programmatic teams (oceans, wildlife, climate, etc.), as well as marketing and communication teams, as part of the project management process.
  • Contribute to marketing and communication efforts to help grow the reach and engagement of Wild Classroom including sharing new offerings internally via staff newsletters and within department meetings, helping to strategize new ways to share content externally such as social media, and seeking out new educational hubs, awards, or promotional opportunities for Wild Classroom to participate in.
  • Manage tasks crucial to the efficiency of the Wild Classroom program, including but not limited to maintaining regular updates to the Wild Classroom webpage (wildclassroom.org), monitoring the Wild Classroom email inbox and promptly responding to inquiries, and monitoring and evaluating the performance of program tactics.
  • Stay up to date and report on trends in the education field and successful learning and teaching strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Current enrollment or a completed bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or environmental sciences
    • Experience in teaching youth, formally or informally
    • Experience in developing education material, to be used in a formal or informal learning setting
    • Experience in (or interest in learning) webpage coding/management
    • Skilled with Microsoft Office tools; familiarity with AI and graphic design tools appreciated
    • Demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Is highly organized with the ability to successfully manage competing priorities while paying close attention to detail
    • A creative and innovative thinker
    • Takes initiative, and is a proactive self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team
    • Committed to the mission, goals, and values of WWF and is passionate about education and conservation
    • Available full-time (working a compressed work schedule – 31/39 hours per week with every other Friday off for “Panda Friday”) for a minimum of 3 months, with opportunity to extend up to a year

      Location:

      Washington, DC or remote.

      US Remote – WWF employs interns in all states with the exception of: Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Wyoming.

      Compensation:

      Paid, $17-$21 per hour.
