What We Need

The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is a leading voice for U.S. protected waters, is seeking an Impact Story Producer to lead the co-design and co-creation of engaging, strategic content that showcases and celebrates the wonders and wavemakers in our national marine sanctuaries.

The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (“Foundation”) is a national narrator telling the stories of these spectacular places; captivating audiences; connecting these cherished places to our own identities and values; and growing and galvanizing a passionate, active support base for sanctuaries. Utilizing breathtaking photography and videography, innovative technologies, and compelling digital experiences, the Impact Story Producer sheds light on charismatic critters, real-life heroes, and awe-inspiring adventures to bring sanctuaries to life. Ultimately, Impact Stories will spark peoples’ connections to our blue planet and ignite caring for and enjoyment of these national treasures in our ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes.

The Impact Story Producer joins a talented and creative team that is putting passion to purpose. They will work alongside the Communications Division which includes the Director of Strategic Communications, Communications Manager, and Multimedia Communications Coordinator. The Producer will also engage the Foundation’s Conservation and Science Division, Education and Outreach Division, and Development Department. In addition to the Foundation’s staff, the Impact Story Producer will work closely with federal partners in the National Marine Sanctuary System and a diverse array of community champions.

What You’ll Do

  • Create or design a multi-media content creation strategy with storyboards, series arcs, creative campaigns, production schedules for multiple titles and ensure delivery of materials
  • Day-to-day management of long-range planning for and execution of interactive storytelling projects, including defining asset needs and technical requirements, roles and responsibilities, workflows, and project plans, and managing the execution of work from the ideation stage to launch
  • Research, brainstorm, develop, pitch and write story outlines, messages, and materials
  • Manage relationships and collaborate with internal and external partners to conceptualize and define messages, themes, and experiences for content
  • Oversee distribution of production materials including content outlines, message testing, treatments, scripts, voiceovers, proofs, layouts, images, and final files.
  • Coordinate opportunities with the field and partners to request and gather multimedia assets, testimonials, etc.
  • Review all footage coming in from the field and work with creative producers, editors, and partners to help shape the story of the edit.
  • Work with the Communications Division to ensure accessibility, translations, branding, and 508 compliance for diverse audiences

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6-8 years of experience in creative content organization, or 10 years minimum experience in lieu of degree. 
  • Experience working audience experience design principles
  • Experience managing teams and consultants, including developers, user experience professional, technology
  • Proven track record in growing digital audiences and expanding audience demographics through content
  • Skill in distilling and illustrating complex, multi-faceted issues and solutions
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize work, meet tight deadlines, and produce key results with attention to detail.
  • Fluency in computer software programs, tools, and technologies (i.e. Microsoft 365, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Asana, Adobe Creative Suite, and databases) required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Exceptional presentation skills that draw audiences in.
