Job Description
This role has multiple levels, open to candidates with at least five years of commercial lending experience. The successful candidate will be hired for the level of the position that aligns with their experience.
U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance (USBIF) provides tax credit investments, loans, and banking services to organizations and projects that support affordable housing, economic development, and job creation in communities across the country.
The CDFI Underwriter position is part of the Specialty Finance team within USBIF. Specialty Finance provides loans, investments, and banking services to Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), CDFI Consortiums, Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Syndicators, and for New Markets Tax Credit transactions. The CDFI Underwriter will report to the Director of Specialty Finance and will work closely with staff across the team and department.
The CDFI Underwriter position represents an exciting opportunity to be a key contributor to a growing business line within USBIF. Candidates will be able to combine their experience in banking and finance with a passion for Impact Finance across the country.
Key responsibilities will include:
+ Lead the ongoing portfolio management of existing customer relationships, including completion of annual reviews, quarterly trend reports, ongoing covenant compliance, and internal credit audits.
+ Coordinate with Relationship Managers, USBIF Loan Administration, USB Credit Risk Management, and other teams to properly manage and risk rate existing borrowers according to U.S. Bank Credit Policy.
+ Assist Relationship Managers with business development, structuring, underwriting, and closing new loans to CDFIs, CDFI Consortiums, LIHTC Syndicators, and New Markets Tax Credit transactions.
+ Assist Relationship Managers by underwriting new loans opportunities with prospective customers, including completing a thorough analysis of a borrower's financial strength and underwriting the credit quality of a borrower's loan portfolio.
+ Prepare comprehensive written credit memos on both annual reviews and new loan opportunities. Ensure that subject loans are underwritten in compliance with U.S. Bank Credit Policy.
+ Coordinate with USBIF Deposit & Payment Solutions team to provide banking services and products to customers.
+ Provide leadership and support for strategic initiatives aligned with U.S. Bank's Access Commitment and USBIF's Racial Equity Agenda.
Basic Qualifications
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent work experience
+ Five to seven years of commercial lending experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
+ Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines
+ Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
+ Strong loan and borrower underwriting skills, including financial statement analysis experience and/or real estate underwriting experience
+ Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups in managing customer relationships
+ Knowledge of U.S. Bank loan systems and credit policy
+ Knowledge of the community development industry, including experience lending to CDFIs, CDFI Consortiums, LIHTC Syndicators, and/or New Markets Tax Credit transactions.
+ Experience lending to different real estate property types, especially multifamily housing
+ MBA, CFA, or CPA is a plus
