Assistant Teacher - Junior High
City Garden Montessori School is seeking individuals who have experience working with adolescents 12 years of age and older in a classroom setting, afterschool program/club setting, or camp, to fulfill the position of Junior High Assistant Guide. The Assistant will help our Lead Guides in mixed-grade level classrooms - Grades 7 and 8. The ideal applicant for this position must possess maturity, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish and maintain connections with students and families.
Under the supervision of the Lead Guides, and reporting to the School Principal, the Junior High Assistant Guide's role is to provide guidance and continuity for an instructional program delivered with an anti-bias/anti-racist pedagogy.
The Most Exciting Part of the Job

  • Working in collaboration with classroom Lead Guides to assess students' academic needs and proficiency
  • Assisting the Lead Guide in providing learning that supports the development of the cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual growth of the student
  • Assisting the students in setting goals
  • Connecting students to appropriate resources
  • Assisting individual students in performing activities initiated by the Lead Guide in small groups or one-to-one settings
  • Providing supervision and enriching activities during non-academic times including lunch, recess, and afternoon periods as needed

Responsibilities

The Assistant Guide will work in collaboration with classroom Lead Guides to assess students' academic needs and proficiency, assist them in setting goals, connect them to appropriate resources, and provide ongoing support by assisting and strengthening student learning
  • Provide support to Lead Guides to facilitate small group follow up lessons in Math and Language Arts
  • Facilitate In-House Service Learning Program for Junior High Students to help City Garden Community and neighborhood
  • Chaperone small group Service Learning Opportunities
  • Facilitate Monthly Career Speakers
  • Helps the Lead Guides to prepare, maintain, and enhance the learning environment by encouraging and modeling positive relationships and choices
  • Assists the Lead Guides by documenting learning and behavior; keeping records of small group lesson outcomes for individual students, including behavioral data.

Qualifications
  • Possess a minimum of an Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree is highly preferred
  • 2+ years of working with adolescents 12 years of age and older in a classroom setting or in an afterschool program or club setting, camps, detention centers, and/or volunteer activities; previous experience in a Junior High or High school age classroom preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Google Products
  • Ability and confidence to help students complete Middle School Math and Language Arts work
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of children and the school environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-biased/anti-racist principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Schedule
School Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday
This Semester: From the day of hiring until the last week in May, including but not limited to professional development, classroom preparatory work, staff meetings, and assigned work on non-instructional days
Compensation
This is a full-time, 10-month academic year position. The pay range is $17.00 to $19.00 per hour.
