Title
Imaging Technician Urgent Care Assistant (PRN)
Under general supervision of a licensed physician and according to established policies, procedures, and protocols performs radiographic studies of patient organs, anatomical areas, and body systems to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries or disease. Provides primary clinical care of a variety of injuries related to patients admitted to the clinic. Performs other related duties as assigned. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 years formal education/training, or Associate's degree; and 1-2 years' experience required

Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
• Provides primary clinical diagnostic assistance for examinees medical examinations and for injury care. Provide any patient or examinee with medical/technical assistance involving any of the multiple diagnostic or treatment methods and modalities.
• Obtains patient medical history from written records and interviews and notes patient medical condition that may adversely affect positioning, sequencing, etc. Explains procedures and gives instructions to patients and family members when appropriate to maximize test quality.
• Determines x-ray technique(s). Makes specific adjustments for trauma patients. Documents settings, type of radiograph, etc.
• Assists patients onto tables and positions them for procedure. Applies patient protective devices and may use simple devices to hold patient securely in place.
• Performs routine diagnostic exams (skeletal, chest, abdominal, and upper and lower extremity studies). Ensures results of emergency radiographs are reported promptly.
• Performs other diagnostic and treatment procedures as directed. Responsibilities include: electrocardiography, injections, minor laboratory procedures including phlebotomy and other specimen collection, oxygen administration, spirometry, wound care, CPR, dispensation of medications, emergency first-aid, minor surgical assistance, and visual acuity testing. Cross-disciplinary orientation and training will be accomplished on the job during the first 90 days or as otherwise specified for the following: audiometric testing training and certification required during the first year; American Heart/American Red Cross BCLS certification required during the first 60 days; dispensation of medications including narcotics under the control of a registered nurse, physician assistant, or physician only.
• Sets, calibrates, and operates a variety of equipment used in performing radiologic tests and processing of films. Calculates proper exposure rates for minimal radiation exposure. Reviews images for accuracy and quality.
• Perform initial patient work-ups, including showing patient to exam room, taking personal and medical histories, taking blood pressure and pulse readings, measuring height and weight, etc.
• Move with patient through discharge process, including: review of physician's notes & instructions, scheduling of patient labs/x-ray. Hand off to front desk personnel for appointment, discharge and rescheduling.
• Perform basic lab work; draw blood specimens and send to lab; prepare other lab specimens, such as cultures, UA's, and pap smears and send to lab. Follow up on lab test results by filing in patient charts, routing to physician for review, and following up with patient as appropriate to schedule further appointments or consultations, give out/send prescriptions prepared by physician, and the like.
• Perform various data entry and information retrieval tasks using computerized patient records system. Verify receipt of lab/x-ray results, utilizing existing tracking system. Follow-up on any noncompliance labs & x-ray results.
• Organize exam rooms, set up for specific procedures (if necessary), do general cleaning & upkeep.
• Works with other departments as necessary to coordinate patient care issues such as scheduling tests, referrals, obtaining authorizations, billing, and medical records.
• May also perform a variety of clerical duties such as answering the phone, copying documents, processing patient charges, scheduling patient appointments, discharging patients from the clinic, and initiating patient referrals.
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion. Ensures that all supplies, materials, and equipment are adequate. Stocks rooms with appropriate linens and supplies.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of advances and changes in the fields of radiographic technology and Urgent Care medicine.
• Participates in quality assurance/quality control activities as directed. Maintains quality assurance requirements.
• Demonstrates commitment to providing outstanding customer service in a manner that is reflective of our mission, values and customer service standards.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
• Maintains a safe workplace by keeping work area free of hazards and correcting and/or properly reporting any safety hazards.
• Uses correct body positioning, proper body mechanics to avoid injury, utilizes safe work practices (e.g. pushing vs. pulling, patient transfer/lifting devices, etc.) and uses personal protective equipment when necessary.
