Job Description

Imaging Specialists work in the Computed Tomographic Scan (CT) department and are responsible for performing various computed tomography procedures for imaging of human anatomy. This includes transferal and photographing of images, archiving post, processing multiplanar, 3D vascular and/or 3D-bone reconstruction and performing appropriate protocols. This position may also perform imaging duties of operation of ionizing radiation producing equipment for diagnostic imaging purposes in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols and quality standards as established by the department and facility and lithotripsy procedures using ultrasonic and fluoroscopic equipment.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Excess work experience as described below in the experience requirement section which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree in may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

Imaging Experience: One and one-half (1½) years of progressively responsible professional imaging technologist/specialist experience which demonstrated a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, discograms, arthrograms, etc., including the X-raying of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastro-intestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.

Specialized Experience: One Year of Progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in one of the following modalities; angiography, cardiac catheterization, computed tomography, echocardiography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, ultrasound, or vascular in a clinical or hospital environment.

Certification: A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R). A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Computed Tomography (CT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in BLS Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Licensure: A current State of Hawaii Radiologic Technologist license as a radiographer.

Substitution of Experience for Education:

  1. Successful completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with a certificate or associate degree and two (2) years of professional radiologic experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  2. Excess work experience as described under the Imaging or Specialized Experience Requirement which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  3. Any other responsible professional work experience; which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  4. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.


Substitution of Experience: Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience Requirement may be substituted for Imaging Experience on a year-for-year basis.

Medical Examination Requirement

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.

Imaging Years of Service Incentives

Employees in certain Imaging Specialist positions shall earn incentives based on the successful completion of the following years of service:

  • 1 year of satisfactory service: $2,000 bonus
  • 2 years of satisfactory service: $3,000 bonus
  • ($5,000 is the maximum bonus that any employee may receive over the life of this agreement)
