Position Summary
We are seeking to recruit a Research Assistant/technician to provide technical support for MRI study in vivo, perform image processing, and recruit/coordinate human subjects for ongoing cardiovascular MRI applications. The position-holder will contribute to the current grant applications in patients with peripheral arterial diseases and cardiac diseases. This will include patient recruitment, institute regulatory work, and clinical examinations. The researcher will closely work with the PI and collaborating members from various departments, including Radiology, vascular surgery, cardiovascular division, and Program for Physical Therapy.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Organizes and performs preclinical imaging experiments, including modalities such as magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, computed tomography (CT) imaging, positron emission tomography (PET) and optical imaging, to support preclinical imaging needs at MIR/WUSM.
  • Performs quality assurance, quality control or cross-calibration on preclinical imaging instruments and relevant ancillary equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Performs anesthesia and surgical procedures on small animals as necessary to complete Imaging Research experiments according to protocol.
  • Performs image analysis and processing of imaging data.
  • Supports planning and preparing research projects in collaboration with users.
  • Monitors and performs preventive maintenance on preclinical imaging instruments and relevant ancillary equipment to ensure operation in accordance with MIR and manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Ensures laboratory and work area comply with MIR health and safety policies and procedures with no violations.
  • May help in the development of IACUC protocols in support of preclinical imaging experiments.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
  • This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.
  • The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

  • Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a science field, such as physics or biomedical engineering or related.

R10-H
Salary Range
$24.10 - $40.97 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
