Position:ICU Nurse
Location: Rapid city, SD
Duration: 3 Months
Job Summary: The ICU Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality patient care to complex ICU patients, including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases. This role requires a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience. The ICU Nurse should have expertise in handling patients with various diagnoses, including ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma. The nurse must possess strong critical thinking skills, be comfortable in a fast-paced setting, and demonstrate proficiency in the use of Epic for charting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care to complex ICU cases, adhering to the established nurse-to-patient ratios.
- Administer and manage IV medications, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
- Demonstrate expertise in hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, and other critical care procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and nurse aides.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Epic charting system.
- Adhere to all required certifications, including BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC.
- Participate in hospital orientation and unit-specific training.
- Follow facility policies and procedures, including infection control measures and HIPAA guidelines.
- Float to the Emergency Department (ED) when necessary, demonstrating flexibility in assignments.
- Uphold a high standard of patient safety and advocate for best practices in patient care.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a nursing education program approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience.
- Active BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications.
- Experience with Epic charting system.
- Proficiency in handling complex ICU patients, including those with cardiac conditions.
- Ability to float to ED and work in a fast-paced environment.

- Patient Ratios: RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare) - acuity dependent
- Charting System: Epic - REQUIRED FOR ED & ICU

Scheduling and Benefits:
- Weekend rotation: Every other
- On-call schedule: No
- Holiday Expectations: No RTO during holidays; No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year)
- Approval of time off: Up to 7 days - must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract.
