Description
Mountain Recreation offers a fun, exciting environment to our participants and staff alike; one that fosters, skill building, movement, life skills and fun! Applicants must be enthusiastic and love working with children, have strong skills in working as a team with coworkers and show strong communication and class management skills. Every employee receives a membership to all Mountain Recreation facilities.
Eagle Pool and Ice Rink is looking for youth and adult ice skating instructors for the 2023-2024 Winter Season. Lessons are Thursday afternoons from September - April.
Skating Instructors are responsible or teaching participants how to Skate using the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) Learn to Skate USA Program. This includes supervising participants on the ice, demonstrating skating skills, assist with planning lessons and, evaluating participant skills.
Schedule: Thursday afternoons/early evenings
Salary: Part-Time Hourly; Starting: $25.00-$35.00/class; Dependent on qualifications

Staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hr incentive if they are Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test

General Statement of Duties: Provide Learn toIce Skate program instruction and supervision with some independence. Teach the progressive skills that are fundamental to the sport. Promote an environment consistent with program philosophies and goals.
Examples of Duties:
• Instructs and supervises participants in Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey programs.
• Ensures safe use of facilities. Maintains security of facility. Reports vandalism and theft.
• Maintains all required records and forms.
• Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedures.
• Sets-up and breaks down equipment and facilities.
• Maintains the cleanliness of facilities and equipment.
• Communicates effectively with participants, parents and staff, providing accurate information related to work assignment.
• Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
• Report any problems with equipment or ice conditions to supervisor.
• Provide information to the public on facility operations and recreation programs.
• General knowledge of Mountain Recreation and its activities offered.
• Ensure safety of patrons in the facility and assists in emergency situations.
• Provides first aid care when needed.
• Inform supervisor of any known situation that may be hazardous to patrons or staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of: Ice hockey instruction including the fundamental skills of the sport; safety guidelines related to assignment.
Ability and skill to: demonstrate initiative, exercise some independent decision making, plan activities and tasks; provide leadership from within team; effectively communicate with staff and public, interact with a variety of patrons/participants; demonstrate ice skating techniques; Ice Skate; establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.
Education/Experience:

  1. Must be 15 years of age or older
  2. High School graduation or currently attending high school; AND
  3. One year previous work related experience with ice hockey/Ice Skate instructional programs; OR
  4. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
  5. Knowledge of USA Figure Skating or USA Hockey Programs preferred.

Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Facility Supervisor/Recreation Supervisor.
Work Environment: Works indoors at one the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink during the winter months. Work hours and days may vary. Position may require long periods of standing or sitting.
