Job description

Position Summary: Position has primary responsibility for creating mechanical, piping, electrical, electronic designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or system configurations using 3-D CAD Systems for manufacturing oil and gas production and processing equipment to provide timely, accurate drawings and bills of materials. It will include working with new/existing designs and applying that information to create new drawings and material lists.
Job Description:
  • Reviews scope of work definition in areas such as electrical code, and customer specifications.
  • Creates 3D models, depicting accurate details of components and parts, identifies all dimensions, angles, curvatures and materials.
  • Documents and verifies instrumentation, electrical, electronic parts, assemblies or systems including bills of materials.
  • Design instrumentation and electrical drawings in accordance with NEC code and the company standard. Work directly with the I&E team to ensure there will not be any fitment issues between the electrical design and the assembly drawings.
  • Review P&ID’s, general arrangement drawings and create an accurate electrical bill of materials for each job to send out for quote.
  • Communicates directly with the electrical supplier to order material for upcoming jobs based off the company schedule.
  • Assists Quality Control in obtaining required package documentation.
  • Ensures quality of drawings according to department and industry standards.
  • Makes calculations and uses charts and tables to accommodate the design process.
  • Review approved customer changes for proper fit and modify drawings as required.
  • Familiar with human engineering factors and design
  • Works within budget costs and documents project to establish project history.
  • Provides drawings for subcontract fabrication on work orders.
  • Provides design time estimates as needed during bid preparation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and assists with shop work instructions or problems.
  • Works with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to coordinate cost and delivery.
  • Works with suppliers to obtain component details or other information.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Associate degree or Technical School Training in Computer Aided Design Technology or related field equivalent or equal combination of education and experience
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years designing and documenting mechanical, electrical, electronic equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be familiar with Autodesk, AutoCad and CADWorx experience required (AutoCad Plant 3D, Inventor, Compress, PVElite Pro-E, AutoCad Mechanical experience helpful)
  • Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, structural, electrical, and utility drawings.
  • Good organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in oil and gas facilities and construction of production equipment preferred.
  • Uses MS Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with Oracle, Global Shop Solutions or other ERP systems is a plus.
The Primary Duties (Objectives) in the Job
  • Understanding of the scope of work and project drawing specifications
  • Creating detailed and accurate drawings
  • Reviewing data with applications to ensure proper item selections or layout problems.
  • Providing manufacturing detailed drawings and/or instructions for fabrication
  • Reviewing “As-Built” projects to ensure quality control and using lessons learned.
  • Must have proven experience in fabrication and assembly techniques, electrical design, plant layout especially regarding fabrication, construction, design or layout of production facilities including knowledge of compression and rotating equipment.
  • Familiar with oil and gas industry standards.
  • Good organizational and planning skills to ensure deadlines are met.
Physical Strain:
  • Bending, squatting, climbing, pulling, stooping, twisting, reaching, working at elevated heights
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme temperatures or in a shop environment.
