Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) Mission Statement:
The mission of OSHIIP is to empower, educate, and assist Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers through objective outreach, counseling, and training, to make informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits.
The Department is seeking a Public Information Officer (working title, OSHIIP Community Liaison). The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, strong data analysis abilities, & the capability to remain positive in a fast-paced environment.This position will provide Medicare expertise to Ohio's Medicare beneficiaries, their family members, and caregivers.OSHIIPs Public Information Officer (Community Liaison) will serve as a Medicare subject matter expert for designated counties.

What You'll Do:
Your Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide all OSHIIP services to designated counties , i ncluding volunteer recruitment, training, certification, and retention ; m aintain and expand OSHIIP presence in assigned counties.
  • Act as Medicare subject matter expert for local counselors, sites, and consumers.
  • Conduct statewide in-person and webinar presentations.
  • Work one-on-one with Ohio's Medicare population at statewide in-person events and through virtual counseling to explain and compare health plan and prescription drug plan options.
  • Solicit reports from volunteer counselors and enter all activity into federal web-based reporting tool. Run performance reports and analyze data to support program activities and direction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What's in it for you:
Unless required by legislation or union contract, the final candidate can expect to be paid at the lowest step in the pay range (step 1). As a Public Information Officer 1, you will receive a raise after six (6) months and yearly step increases until you reach the top level of the pay range. There may also be possible cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements begin after five (5) years of state service.
This position is designated as telework eligible. The agency has a hybrid work model (i.e., working in the office and working from home on a schedule based on operational need). As such, successful candidates must have and maintain the internet at their remote location during normal working hours. In addition, employees must reside in Ohio and within a reasonable distance from the Department location to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Qualifications
30 months experience in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license.
-Or completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 6 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license.
-Or 12 months experience as Public Information Specialist, 64420; valid driver's license.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
