Our eMobility Team is growing and we have a great opportunity for a HV Battery BMS (Battery Management System) Integration & Validation Engineer.
The engineer in this position will help define the requirements for the BMS (Battery Management System) and validate the BMS against them on a test bench and concept & development vehicles. The engineer in this role ensures that the BMS can detect and correct or otherwise take appropriate action on these faults under a wide variety of conditions.
This is a hybrid position based in our Rochester Hills, MI, Lisle, IL or San Antonio, TX locations.
Responsibilities- Designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining BMS validation practices
- Developing BMS diagnostics requirements, determining sensing requirements, setting maturity and clearing thresholds, and implementing in software
- Cascading test specifications from system to the BMS; delivery of software test plans & procedures for BMS hardware and functional software testing
- Cascading sensor requirements necessary to meet diagnostic goals to the responsible hardware design team
- Integrate rechargeable battery systems on the benches and development vehicles
- Validate the BMS hardware and software against requirements, assess results, and the creation of test reports
- Perform BMS functional software and software flashing tests on system bench and concept/development vehicles
- Develop automated test scripts
- Assist in software and algorithm debugging, including leading BMS software root-cause analysis and problem resolution
- Provide input to DVP&Rs, DFMEAs, and SFMEAs
- Estimate resource needs and timing to complete all necessary validation and work to incorporate into development timing plan(s)
- Create and manage functional validation documents and tracking sheets
- Conduct research on new tools, best practices, and procedures for BMS test quality & efficiency improvements then work with Validation Engineering and our TRATON partners to evaluate and implement
- Work with the Navistar Controls and Software team to ensure BMS compliance with communication, cybersecurity, and module flashing protocols
- Work with suppliers, our TRATON partners, and other Navistar teams to achieve program goals on-time and with high quality
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies
- At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
- Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies
- At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
- PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies
- At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. - Proactive/self-starter behavior is expected; must be able to deal with ambiguity and be able to effectively manage his or her time
- Hands-on experience with various controller (BMS preferred) testing methodologies, including those for diagnostics, algorithms verification, and regression testing
- Hands-on experience with diagnostic and flashing protocols
- Hands-on experience with CAN HW & SW Test tools such as CANanalyzer, CANoe, CANape, ETAS INCA
- Basic programing skills in Python, C, CAPL
- Experience in manual and automated testing methods
- Working experience with relevant industry standards such as SAE J1939, J1772, ISO15118, ISO 26262, UDS, etc.
- Experience designing tests and writing detailed test plans
- Experience in following automotive product development processes and product production launches preferred
- Working experience with HV Energy Storage Systems for mobile applications preferred
- Experience or familiarity with engineering tools and software, for example: Matlab, Polarian, AUROS, XFMEA
- DFSS green or black-belt certification preferred
- Patience and willingness to teach stills to others is a desired trait for this position
- Must be able to collaborate and work well in teams, including across brands and time-zones
- Ability and flexibility to travel
