Human Resource Assistant (Part Time)

The North Carolina Aquarium Society is seeking applicants for the position of Human Resource Assistant.
The Aquarium Society is a 501c3 nonprofit, based in Raleigh, N.C., that serves as the support organization for North Carolinas three aquariums on the coast (Fort Fisher, Pine Knoll Shores, and Roanoke Island) as well as Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, N.C. The Aquarium Society supports the mission of the Aquariums and their work in conservation, education and research through advocacy, philanthropic engagement, and enhanced guest experiences. The Aquarium Society leads fundraising efforts for capital projects and conservation programs, operates gift shops at the Aquarium and Pier locations, manages membership programs, and advocates for support from government and private sources.
The Human Resource Assistant reports to the Human Resource Manager. Human Resource Assistant performs several human resource functions, such as payroll processing, benefit administration and new hire set up.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Processes payroll and maintains payroll information as required.
- Ensures that computing, withholdings, and/or deductions associated with net pay are done properly.
- Processes and maintains all status reports and pay changes.
- Processes garnishments and other mandatory withholdings to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
- Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
- Initiates COBRA process when appropriate.
- Handles benefits enrollments and administration; processing updates as needed.
- Prepares and maintains employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- Associate degree in business management or human resources from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be articulate, assertive and have excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Team player with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and across departments.
- Experience working closely with interdepartmental staff.
- Familiarity with and comfortable learning database systems
- Strong computer skills; Excel, Word, DocuSign, Adobe, and SharePoint experience desired, excellent database skills.
- Pass a criminal background check.
Salary:
This is a non-exempt position with an hourly hiring range of $16.50 - $18.27.
