We are currently recruiting for an energetic and reliable person to join our Training and Workforce development team as a Human Resources Specialist. As a new team member you'll have the opportunity to help support, train, and champion Pierce Transit's most valuable resource; its people.
This position supports administrative and technical functions associated with the department's services including Learning Center coordination, assisting with training projects, maintaining learning management systems, and working with tuition and educational partnerships.
With a primary workstation in the Employee Resource center, you will often serve as the first point of contact for the department, have frequent internal customer interactions and opportunities to respond to a variety of training and development needs. The ability to adapt to changing or competing priorities, while providing excellent customer service will be of vital importance. Additionally, success in this position will require you to be well-versed in professional writing and social media experience OR a desire to expand your skills in support of these functions.
This position frequently interacts with current Pierce Transit staff and the ideal candidate understands the importance of valuing and respecting every employee and can communicate effectively with people from very diverse backgrounds and experiences. The individual we are seeking will need to have experience working with SharePoint and have the ability to handle competing priorities with a smile while staying on task in a fast-paced Workforce Development environment.

Pierce Transit offers two Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plans to choose from, PERS2 and PERS3, as well as a matching program for 457 deferred compensation.
Employees are not covered under the Social Security System except for a 1.45% payment for Medicare.

Pierce Transit provides an ORCA Card benefit for each employee and a family member. This benefit provides free access to service on Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Seattle Monorail, Seattle Streetcar, King County Water Taxi and Kitsap Foot Ferry.

  • Regularly meets expectations for work schedule, accomplishing assignments, and serves as a source of supply and support for the department, customers, and/or the organization.
  • Staffs the Workforce Development Learning Center.
  • Supports a calendar of events for development activities.
  • Greets and assists with walk-in traffic.
  • Prepares materials for planned activities such as New Employee Orientation.
  • Tracks and supports e-learning and tuition assistance accounts.
  • Navigates and assists employees in locating learning courses.
  • Maintains department's SharePoint site and communications.
  • Supports delivery of metrics and department goals.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for, and handles accurately, the details associated with one's work.
  • Works effectively and productively with others, sometimes in a team setting.
  • Speaks writes and listens effectively in a variety of circumstances, sharing information and ideas with others.
  • Displays an understanding and sensitivity to needs and problems of others.
  • Builds rapport, establishes relationships and relates well to all kinds of people.
  • Understanding and experience with databases, word processing, or learning management systems.
  • Writes, edits and proofreads content, ensuring accuracy, correct grammar usage, and clarity.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Anticipates and adapts to changing priorities.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates regular and consistent attendance.
  • Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent and
  • Three (3) years' of experience in a Human Resources, Workforce Development or training environment
DESIRED:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with design/social media
  • Experience in training and development
  • Public sector experience desired

Education
Any required education must come from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U S Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
