Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

HSSE Coordinator reports to the HSSE Supervisor. The HSSE Coordinator will assist the HSSE Supervisor to oversee safety, health, security, and environmental management systems for employees, contractors and consultants, will assist in providing routine and incident reporting to appropriate agencies and management in accordance with WETT policies and appropriate regulations. The HSSE Coordinator will serve as a resource to internal WETT groups responsible for implementing the HSSE management systems in operations, maintenance, and construction.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development of new and maintenance of policies and loss prevention programs within the framework of WETT Environmental and Safety management systems and recommend corrective/preventive measures to reduce risks.
  • Assist in the transfer of HSSE policies procedures and development of new procedures within a safety management software platform.
  • Recognize and practice safe and secure work habits using sound, approved health, safety, security and environmental principles and follow company policies and procedures. Immediately act upon incorrect procedures when witnessed and, if necessary, stop the work or procedure.
  • Conduct evaluations of contractor HSSE qualifications, documentation, and work performances.
  • Conduct HSSE training for employees.
  • Assist the HSSE Supervisor with internal audits and strategic workshops such as emergency response procedure drills.
  • Assess the health, safety, security, and environmental risk and impact of the company activities and projects and advise the HSSE Supervisor and project teams of related requirements.
  • Through consultation, ensure compliance with state, federal and local regulatory licenses, permits and safety/health codes, including OSHA regulations, applicable public safety programs, SDS databases, and hazardous material reporting.
  • Participate in WETT HSSE Operations Monthly Safety Meetings and Construction/Safety Monitor Monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Perform regular inspections and tracking of HSSE related equipment such as fire extinguishers, automatic electric defibrillators, first aid kits, personal protective equipment, etc.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • BA/BS degree with a major in industrial or occupational safety, environmental science or a related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in developing/coordinating/implementing safety/security/environmental programs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with state/local and other applicable safety requirements and documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience with utility construction and O&M safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with security and public safety programs and practices.
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and practices.
  • An understanding of project management processes.
  • Experience with high voltage systems is preferred.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Driver’s license required.
  • Certification as a Safety Professional and/or related field preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to obtain proficiency in Safety Management Software Platforms.

Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability for self-motivated learning and discovery.
