GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Come join our team and our mission in Lander, Wyoming! The Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to join our team of professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, assess, design, plan, implement, and perform therapeutic programs.
  • Monitor and oversee therapeutic programs/job aids/therapeutic equipment to achieve optimal results for residents served.
  • Train and educate new and current staff in therapeutic skills and activities that support the established intervention plan. This includes teaching Physical Challenges/Mealtime Challenges classes and on-the-job training.
  • Document resident care services by charting in written and computerized records.
  • Write and maintain progress notes.
  • Provide verbal assessments and feedback to the Occupational Therapist for written quarterly notes and yearly assessments.
  • Assist in the fabrication of custom splints and ordering splints based upon resident needs.
  • Attend Interdisciplinary Team meetings, other meetings, and medical appointments to address Occupational Therapy concerns.
  • Oversee sensory equipment/sensory room areas and order and maintain equipment, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury, or mental health issues.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy practice, principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of Kinesiology.
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic equipment.
  • Ability to use a computer at a proficient level.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to conduct work duties in a self-motivated and self-disciplined manner.
  • Skills in problem-solving.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Occupational Therapy)

Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Occupational Therapy)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of Wyoming as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position, and lift people with multiple severe disabilities.
  • Ability to monitor sounds, noises, location of residents, etc., in order to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
  • Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, Mandt, and Crisis Management.

NOTES:
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
  • The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify. We will provide the Social Security Administration, and if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security, with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. Please note that we do not use this information to pre-screen job applicants.
