Job Summary:
We are currently seeking an experienced, self-starter, goal-oriented, candidate to fill the role of HSE Specialist II working in our Harrison, Ohio facility. This position supports the Ameco site and personnel with safety inspections, compliance program implementation, project planning, employee training, and other health, safety and environmental services. This individual must possess a high level of organization and time management skills. The chosen candidate must be able to effectively communicate with various audiences as well as people at different levels within the organization. This individual reports directly to the Senior HSE Manager. Other areas of focus would include engaging in outreach programs within the community that support the goal of being inclusive and our desire to improve the communities in which we live and work.

Responsibilities are as follows:

Lead Safety

  • Champion AMECO’s Beyond Zero Injury culture
  • Understand operations schedule for risk planning.
  • Ensure effective understanding, communication, and consistent reinforcement of both site and Ameco safety expectations and objectives.

Site Communications & Engagement

  • Develop and manage relationships at all levels including projects/craft, shop, site leadership and AMECO corporate.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships external to the company, including subcontractors, regulatory entities, medical service providers and other appropriate entities.
  • Attend /Participate in Industry/Regulatory Trade Groups
  • Trend and benchmark Safety Performance – Monitor/Review internal reporting requirements
  • Develop Action Plans for Safety Performance
  • Participate and provide guidance in HSE-related Safety Committees
  • Consistent presence on shop floors – Timely response to questions or issues
  • Lead/ Participate in the morning STA review.
  • Ensure consistent communications and timely delivery of internal projects and tasks.

Worksite Management

Work with Site Management teams on job site safety planning, including but not limited to the following:

  • Maintain site-wide HSE programs and policies
  • Participate in assigned or required safety meetings.
  • Coordinate and/or administer safety orientations for new personnel.
  • Assure timely investigations, inspections, and reporting of HSE matters within the area assigned.
  • Weekly site safety inspections, trend identification and correction
  • Maintains records, reports, and documents to meet company or regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure understanding of site needs by individual engagement of site staff.
  • Lead comprehensive incident investigations; obtain and protect collected data.


Training

Development and implementation of safety programs:

  • Training programs focusing on the specific needs of a site.
  • Monthly New Hire training, including Fall Protection and equipment training.
  • Development of safety toolbox talks
  • Hazard Recognition tools & skill development
  • Mentor and assist site staff, and co-ops, provide support during new hire onboarding.

Compliance / Risk Management

  • Provide safety knowledge/expertise to ensure consistency in safety policies and procedures throughout the project.
  • Manage environmental issues. Conduct/Coordinate IH Monitoring for silica, noise, asbestos, lead, mold, etc.
  • Assist AMECO personnel in the development, revision and implementation of new or updated policies, procedures or task-specific work instructions.
  • Ensure proper risk assessment has been completed, risks defined and communicated to decision-makers.
  • Participate as or call upon internal SMEs for site aspects requiring task-specific consultation.
  • Ensure emergency response systems, policies and procedures are in place to manage emergency situations.
  • Communicate effectively with representatives of regulatory agencies/customers to resolve compliance issues and provide requested information.
  • Provide data analysis and reports, regulatory interpretations and guidance on all safety and health policies and programs of critical importance to overall Ameco and site objectives.
  • Partner with the site staff to interpret, evaluate, and provide technical guidance on internal safety requirements, accident investigation, and implementing corrective action measures.

Administrative functions include but not limited to:

  • Completion of paperwork, associated with safety inspections, permits, accident/incident follow-up, OSHA inspections, employee training, safety orientations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Health and Safety or related field 1-3 years of industry and/or construction experience.
  • OSHA 30 HR certification
  • Technical working knowledge of OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations
  • Practical experience in employee safety training
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Abilities:

  • Able to build long-term relationships and influence others in a persuasive and positive manner.
  • Possess all auditory, speaking and communicating capabilities.
  • Physical requirements: sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 25lbs., seeing and reading.
