Job Description
SUMMARY
Responsible for consulting and supporting managers and employees regarding Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) issues and regulatory compliance within the USA and Canada.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Ensure the practical implementation of the HSE aspects of the TÜV Rheinland management system and external regulatory requirements by guiding managers and employees through processes, providing information, and monitoring progress.
- Support the continual improvement of and advise managers and employees on company programs in safety and incident prevention, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste management, environmental management, fire prevention, chemical safety, emergency preparedness, data privacy and protection, and other HSE-related initiatives.
- Ensure managers and employees understand their responsibilities in reporting hazard spots, near misses, incidents, and accidents.
- Support in the incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions for hazard reports, incidents, accidents, and Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) management system nonconformities.
- Coordinate with key stakeholders to prepare and implement HSE training courses, and ensure employees receive specific advanced hazard training in their area of responsibility.
- Monitor HSE and Sustainability key performance indicators and recommend actions to improve performance to the QHSE Regional Officer.
- Ensure underlying KPI data and other information required by management, governing agencies, etc. are accurately compiled and produced in a timely manner to meet regulatory reporting requirements and to allow for timely action on performance improvement.
- Document QHSE activities for audit purposes and maintain records for HSE compliance programs.
- Advise on the preparation, creation, and implementation of HSE risk assessments and control measures as required.
- Conduct regular HSE inspections and audits of TÜV Rheinland operations, ensure follow-up actions are clear, and generate professional reports on outcomes and progress.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately to managers, employees, and other internal and external stakeholders, adjusting according to the needs of the business and the target audience.
- Monitor, review and develop the appropriate response to legislation and other regulatory requirements in the areas of occupational health, safety, data protection, environment, and other HSE-related obligations to ensure compliance is achieved and sustained.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities
- Knowledge of environmental engineering principles and occupational health and safety sciences, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to relay complex scientific and technical information in a clear, concise, and understandable manner, both verbally and in technical writing.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated effective experience working within applicable federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations, including awareness of current issues that may impact the functional responsibilities of the occupation.
- Ability to travel. Valid passport and driver’s license required.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education and/or experience.
Experience
- 5-10 years of experience in environmental health and safety or related field.
Certifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 internal auditor qualifications preferred.
