POSITION SUMMARY:

This office position plays an integral role in the overall function of the Human Resources department. The HR Manager provides professional advice on human resources policies and procedures, coordinates and directs administrative functions, promotes employee engagement, lends support to recruitment and retention efforts, and provides input on employee benefits & employee relations matters. This role manages HR professionals, providing support, guidance, and development.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties include the following, while other duties may be assigned to meet business needs:

  • Develop, revise, and implement employment policies, procedures, and practices to ensure regulatory compliance and to support business goals and strategies.
  • Promote positive employee engagement by working closely with Operations and our Benefits Analyst to coordinate employee events (Back to School, Holiday Parties, etc.) and wellness activities.  
  • Handle the recruitment process for all senior level management positions, and office positions, to include postings on job boards, reviewing resumes, phone screening applicants as needed, and working closely with the hiring manager until the role is filled.
  • Initiate and audit talent acquisition processes and applicant tracking software, working closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager, to ensure the best systems and processes are in place to attract top talent and fill open positions timely.
  • Handle the pre-employment process for positions filled (as stated above), to include screenings, paperwork, etc. The HR team can also provide support on this process as needed.
  • Compile onboarding for all management new hires, to include organizing schedule, sending meeting invites, communication with the new employee, etc. to provide a well-rounded new hire experience.  
  • Oversee the new hire onboarding process to keep new employees engaged from offer letter to start date. Participate on the Onboarding Committee, providing ideas and feedback as we continue to improve our processes and work on initiatives to improve engagement and reduce turnover.
  • Manage the HRIS Specialist, providing guidance on projects, ensuring projects are on schedule and quality work is being produced. Mentor and develop Specialist as they learn and grow in their role.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of the current HRMS, payroll system, and any other programs HR uses to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Provide feedback on ways to utilize systems better and offer suggestions on new systems to use. Lead the project to evaluate new systems and the implementation of other software solutions, as needed.
  • Interact with internal customers when needed, in a professional and timely manner.
  • Conduct periodic audits of human resource activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Oversee any regulatory reporting requirements as needed.
  • Evaluate reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to promote continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Oversee the management of the Affirmative Action Program, working closely with the VP HR on changes, reporting, and administration when needed. 
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to hiring processes and day-to-day management of employees to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with Operations management and employees to build morale, increase productivity, and improve retention.

 

DIRECT REPORTS:

  • HRIS Specialist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a Human Resources role, preferably as an HR Generalist.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory capacity, with direct and/or indirect reports.
  • 5+ years of working experience with HRIS, to lead, mentor, and develop an HRIS Specialist.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources; in a private business preferred.
  • Self-started and ability to work autonomously on projects and on a team, when necessary.
  • Strong working knowledge of a variety of HRMS, and a desire to continuously improve HRIS for an organization.
  • Experience accessing reports from an HRMS; UKG/Kronos knowledge a plus.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office knowledge and experience to develop reports and create presentations.
  • Integrity and the ability to handle confidential and private information.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations professionally and in a non-confrontational manner.
  • Ability to problem-solve using sound and accurate judgment.
  • A willingness to obtain CDL and drive a school bus if needed when short on staff, highly desired.
  • PHR desired, but not required.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor degree in Human Resource Management, or Administration, or similar degree; or an Associate’s degree with more than 15 years of working experience in Human Resources.
