Job description

Job Summary The role of this position is to manage the department's human resources program operations and compliance as well as assisting the CAO in the support of the department's operating budget preparation, expense monitoring, and fiscal year-end forecasting. Works under minimal supervision and exercises a high degree of sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion in representing the department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience managing human resource programs including recruitment, employee relations, leaves of absence and performance management
  • Experience supporting financial operations such as variance reporting, budget preparation, invoice management and utilizing financial software programs
  • Experience organizing complex projects and/or events
  • Experience adhering to compliance requirements, controls, policies and procedures
  • Skill in policy research and interpretation
  • Advance proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on complex Excel functionality. Ability to enter data quickly and accurately, verify accuracy and generate reports and lists
  • Ability to write clear and concise business communications, with accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation. Excellent editing and proofreading skills to produce clear, error-free documents
  • Ability to set timelines, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to learn specialized software applications
  • Ability to function as a resource in areas of expertise for those requiring assistance
  • Excellent organizational skills to assume general assignments and independently follow through to successful completion and to manage details of complex projects and events. Demonstrated skill to work on projects with competing deadlines, establish goals and milestones, and to set priorities. Flexibility in dealing with people and competing demands
  • Ability to represent UC Davis Health, the office of the AVC and the CAO with tact and discretion
  • Ability to use independent judgement and make effective and appropriate decisions based on knowledge of departmental, health system, campus and university priorities, resources and policies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or human resources or completion of professional education in these fields
  • Working knowledge of UC, UC Davis and UC Davis Health policies and procedures
  • Experience using UC Davis and UC Davis Health human resources and/or financial systems

Department Description
The Department of Public Affairs and Marketing plans, manages and implements strategic communications (such as news services, public relations, marketing, internal and external communications) for UC Davis Health. Communications are aimed at a wide range of key constituencies such as the news media, UC administration, UC Davis faculty, staff and students, government/regulatory leaders, external physician, business leaders, patients and health care consumers, and the general public.
