Cultural Index Survey
Position Summary: The Human Resources Business Partner - Operations is responsible for aligning the business objective with employees and managers in the Operations department in Baldor NY. In this role, the HRBP will support leaders on HR best practices and play a hands-on operational role in on-boarding, performance management, employee relations, employee engagement, compensation & benefits, terminations, HR administration and system & processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Onboarding:
  • Support recruiting team and transportation department to screen and qualify candidates based on best practices in accordance state specific onboarding and DOT requirements.
  • Draft and process all employment offer letters with appropriate terms for driver candidates.
  • Process consumer reports for perspective candidates and initiate pre and post adverse action letters in accordance with FCRA guidelines.
  • Conduct 90-day check-ins on new hires and conduct leadership follow-ups on 90-day performance reviews.
  • Participate in new hire orientation class on HR policies.

Employee Relations:
  • Advise and support line managers with preparing and delivering formal performance/ conduct and termination meetings and ensure all administration is complete.
  • Conduct first level disciplinary grievance and investigation meetings including witness statements, conclusionary note to files and system documentation.
  • Assist in training and development on legal and compliance to first line leaders and general workforce.
  • Attend Driver safety quarterly meetings and present on HR practices.
  • Conduct all absence-related meetings with employees (FMLA, STD, W.C., etc.) providing advice throughout the process, supporting and updating managers and ensuring all information is accurately communicated to the Benefits coordinator.

Terminations:
  • Review all Termination Recommendation request for supporting documents, accuracy and legal review for termination execution.
  • Prepare termination letters, unemployment notices and updating HRIS.
  • Conduct exit interviews and monitor trends.

Employee Engagement:
  • Support Employee Engagement Team and leadership with research, application and monitoring of employee engagement rewards.
  • Partner with HR Director on compensation and incentive program initiatives.

HR Development:
  • Continuously partner and train with HR Director on legal & compliance, policy creation and implementation.
  • Attend HR networking chapters/groups.

Technology Skills:
  • Calendar and scheduling software - Microsoft Outlook
  • HRIS System- UKG Ready Now (Kronos)
  • Electronic mail software - Microsoft Exchange; Microsoft Outlook
  • Office suite software - Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, Google Suite, Microsoft List, Microsoft Planner
  • Video conferencing software - Microsoft Teams, Zoom

Knowledge:
  • Personnel and Human Resources - Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
  • Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • English/Spanish Proficiency - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English and Spanish languages including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Work Activities:
  • Ability to travel onsite to various locations throughout the Northeast.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.

Desired Experience:
  • Bachelors' degree with at least 5 years of human resources experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in use of varied HRIS software and solutions inclusive of modular based systems for payroll and benefits administration, employee development, compliance, on-boarding, recruitment and other HR functions.
  • Experience with a multi-state and multi-site company in the transportation industry is preferred with oversight for a geographically distributed employee population of at least 500 full-time employees.
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing and monitoring human resource metrics through dash-boarding and reporting across the organization.
