Summary: The Payroll & Benefits Clerk facilitates the payroll process at all business locations. This role administers Payroll & Benefits for all employees and acts as liaison between employees and providers (Insurance and Payroll). The Payroll & Benefits Clerk provides administrative support to the human resource function as needed, including recruiting, interviewing, record-keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry. Our ideal candidate has knowledge of the payroll function, strong analytical and critical thinking, and is eager to learn.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Pass a Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen, and DMV Check at hire and randomly as required by company policy. Must maintain motor vehicle license and insurability per company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute and coordinate weekly payroll processes including the submission of wages to Worker’s Comp, retention of documents, and oversight of compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements.
- Manage payroll workload and resolve issues to meet company requirements for accuracy and compliance, as well as confidentiality.
- Monitor the accurate processing of staff appointments, transfers, promotions, and terminations in regard to payroll. Oversee the maintenance of current employee data systems related to payroll and benefits.
- Administer health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
- Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
- Support all internal and external audits related to payroll and benefits.
- Provide support to Human Resource Department to achieve departmental goals.
- Assists with new-employee background checks & drug screens.
- Reconciles benefits statements.
- Assists with processing of terminations.
- Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.
- Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
- Files documents into appropriate employee files.
- Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
- Prepares new-employee files.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
