How Will Your Role Impact First Command?

 

The HR Coordinator aids with and facilitates the human resource processes at all business locations. This role assists in the administration of employee health and welfare plans (including leaves of absence) and acts as a liaison between employees and providers to resolve benefits-related problems and ensures effective use and positive employee relations. The HR Coordinator makes certain that plans and leaves of absence are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and that plan provisions are followed.

 

What Will You Be Doing?

 

  • Administers and supports employee-qualified leave of absence programs such as sick leave, accident leave, short- and long-term disability, and FMLA.
  • Handles the leave administration process from the employees’ initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.
  • Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work. Relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
  • Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Oversees the return-to-work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, workers compensation, or other leave(s).
  • Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
  • Drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
  • Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • May be involved in plan or policy design and vendor selection and oversight.
  • Will also assist with Benefit Administration and Open Enrollment.

 

What Skills/Qualifications Do You Need?

 

Education

  • 2 years of college, bachelor’s degree preferred. Willing to consider experience in lieu of degree.

 

Work Experience

  • 3-5 Years experience in Human Resources or Benefits Administration
  • 2+ years of direct experience with LOA programs including sick, accident, disability, and FMLA
  • 2+ years of experience with employee benefits plans

 

Certifications

  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
