Job Description
The goal of the program is to provide high-quality, effective, and compassionate services for The Bridge Project (TBP) which is funded by The Board of State and Community Corrections. TBP will provide state parolees with case management and housing services in partnership with New Opportunities, a charter school and mental health services provider, America’s Job Centers of California – AJCCs, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Parole Division, and additional partners. The goal of TBP is to help parolees make a smooth transition to our community. Service sites are on-site at the AJCC located in Inglewood with an outreach office located at the parole office on Alameda.
The Housing Systems Navigator (HSN) will provide information on housing programs using Housing First principles, review eligibility and application information, and offer technical assistance to aid in obtaining housing or moving into a “housing pipeline” and maintaining housing. The HSN will also aid participants in completing public benefits applications as appropriate (e.g., General Relief, GROW, Selective Service Registration). The Case Manager and Housing Systems Navigator will meet weekly with the Program Manager for case conferences to coordinate services.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Housing Systems Navigator is responsible for being familiar with housing options, developing relationships with housing providers, advocating for housing, and assisting participants to apply for and access housing that uses Housing First principles.
The ideal candidate is passionate about serving justice-involved individuals, is familiar with employment resources, and has experience conducting workshops or groups. This non-exempt, full-time position will report to the Program Manager.
Pay Rate: $22.84/hour - $24.04/hour, based on background, education, and experience. Employee benefits package will include but are not limited to paid time off and the employer’s contribution to a healthcare plan of the staff’s choice.
KEY DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
This individual must work successfully with all persons without regard to ethnicity, religion, age, national origin, physical challenge, sexual preference, or gender.
In partnership with the Case Manager, build relationships with housing options in LA County, with a priority on housing that utilizes Housing First principles
Create and maintain a housing database
Assist participants to apply for and access housing to include long-term housing that utilizes Housing First principles
Assist participants to identify housing that matches their needs; arrange for housing inspections prior to move-in
Co-facilitate Talking Circles.
Collect and keep files of income certifications, calculations of subsidies and lease approvals for participants’ direct lease contracts
Maintain a database of participants housed including date and location of housing
Maintain contact with housed participants
Other Duties
Maintain a schedule that is consistent with office hours
Collaborate as necessary with program staff and external third parties to provide quality services and reach contract goals.
Participate in FOLA meetings and training, as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
3 years’ experience providing housing services
Strong working knowledge of issues related to reentry, including parole system, homelessness, and food insecurity,
Strong working knowledge of short- and long-term housing options in LA County
2 years’ experience with data-entry
Strong communication skills
“Lived” experience with the criminal justice system a plus
Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
Maintain professional conduct, attitude, and appearance at all times,
Strong organizational skills; ability to manage or perform multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
Flexible team player with a positive attitude
Computer literate in Microsoft Office, email, and internet
