Housing Court ADR Specialist
To mediate civil and criminal litigation with the goal of resolving such disputes to the satisfaction of the parties without the time and expense of trial.The Alternate Dispute Resolution Specialist retains responsibility for the following tasks:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Familiarize himself/herself with pending civil and criminal cases and other disputes which have been designated for mediation by the Judge, Magistrates or their designees;
- Conduct mediations;
- Draft agreed entries resolving disputes;
- Draft entries to schedule trials and pretrials (i.e. case management orders) where mediation has proved unsuccessful;
- Conduct pretrials and case management conferences in civil and criminal cases;
- Advise Housing Court Specialists and other staff on legal issues and procedure;
- Participate in staff training and development as requested;
- Research and advise on legal, procedural, and administrative matters as assigned;
- Speak at community and other meetings regarding mediation program; and
- Participate in community education activities as assigned.
- Locate files for litigants/attorneys;
- Provide information to litigants/attorneys re status of pending cases; and
- Provide attorneys, public with general information re Housing Court procedure.
Law degree and current registration with Ohio Supreme Court.
Experience:
Experience in the general practice of law; demonstrated professional level of competency required. Experience in housing law and/or dispute resolution required.
Skills:
Position requires knowledge of dispute resolution techniques, good organizational skills, ability to prioritize large number of tasks, good interpersonal skills, knowledge of human behavior and knowledge of court system and procedure. Familiarity with Housing Court and Ohio Landlord/Tenant Act preferred. General computer skills a plus.
