Hourly Bf Peer Counselor

Location: Cherokee County Health Dept. - Canton, Ga
WIC Dept. (Max.29 hrs./wk.) Under immediate to general supervision, provides limited paraprofessional social services to client and their families.

• Provides individual breastfeeding education in the WIV Clinic.
• Provides on-going breastfeeding education and/or counseling to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and/or hospital visits at scheduled intervals as determined by the WIC program.
• Gives basic breastfeeding, information and support to new mothers, including education on the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers to breastfeeding, and how to start breastfeeding successfully.
• Uses proper and consistent documentation for Peer Counselor contacts in Peer Counselor data base and GA-WIC system.
• Attends and participates in scheduled staff meeting and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be a current or former WIC participant who has exclusively breastfed at least on child a minimum of 6 months.
• Enthusiastic about breastfeeding and have a strong desire to help mothers enjoy a positive breastfeeding experience.
• Must have reliable transportation and be willing to take phone calls at home.
• Must be able to assist moms with breastfeeding in assigned WIC Clinic.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish

Primarily sedentary, light physical work with limited to no unusual conditions. Indicate if occasional lifting of 45IBs. Or more.
