Wages for new employees will be on a tiered scale based on the candidate's skills and experience as approved by management staff at the time of hire. New employees will begin at 90% of starting rate/tier for the first six months.

The Regional Transit Authority gets people moving around New Orleans. Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools, and fun-seekers to entertainment, shopping areas, and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA's system includes 5 streetcar lines, 30 bus routes, 2 ferry routes, and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

JOB SUMMARY
The Hostler performs routine cleaning and servicing functions on company vehicles and drives vehicles to and from the parking lot through wash areas, and vault probing.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs general housekeeping tasks on company-owned vehicles as assigned.
  • Replenishes, removes and replaces sand on company vehicles.
  • Performs checks on company vehicles and prepares written reports on malfunctions or defects as noted.
  • Operates probing station in service area.
  • Checks and reports on the visual condition of company vehicles which includes wheels, tires, and damages.
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of RTA are carried out

OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Performs other job-related duties which are in keeping with the goals and objectives of RTA.
EDUCATION
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate
EXPERIENCE
  • Must be able to use basic vehicular repair tools. Previous work experience involving fundamental mechanics is preferred.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to drive; the position requires a current class "E" driver's license. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
  • Experience operating vehicles with a gross weight of 26,000 lb. preferred.
  • Must be able to read and write English legibly to complete reports, forms, and other documentation.
Must submit to a criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed outdoors in various weather conditions. The job requires stooping, bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting to 60 pounds, and walking for the entire shift. Required to work in an environment exposed to fuels, oils, and cleaning solvents.
This is a designated Safety Sensitive Position Covered under USDOT(Federal Transit Administration [FTA] Regulations). Drug and Alcohol Testing is conducted using FTA regulations.
