UPMC McKeesport is hiring a Flex Full Time Host/Hostess to support our Dietary and Cafeteria Department!
This position will work varying shifts including weekends and holidays. Earliest shift starts at 5:30am and late shift starts at 10am.
Purpose:
Ensure patient satisfaction in all aspects of meal service. Through positive, consistent one on one interaction, the hostess/host is responsible for meeting all of patients’ food service needs, including timely, accurate, courteous meal distribution, obtain and provide food preferences through menu assistance, adhere to patients’ dietary restrictions through menu editing, and appropriate follow through on all patient feedback regarding meals.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to HACCP guidelines related to food storage and sanitation of assigned work areas.
- Adhere to department dress code guidelines consistently.
- Serve guest courteously using the designated departmental script including the verification of the patient identification according to department procedure and within established time frames.
- Distribute and collect menus/menu choices from patients within established departmental time frames and according to established guidelines.
- Check par levels in unit pantries and replenishes daily.
- Record amount and types of special food items served to patients (calorie counts).
- Edit menus in accordance with therapeutic dietary guidelines and patient specific requests.
- Receive unit meal report before each meal to ensure patient accuracy & safety for meal service.
- Provide assistance to customers in selecting menu items based on personal preferences/health conditions and monitor their satisfaction.
- Provide set-up assistance and follow-up care to patients regarding meal service requests.
- Tally menus daily for food production.
- Serve patient meal trays accurately and according to diet orders, menu, and modified diet/patient specific requests. Monitor temperatures at critical points according to HACCP guidelines.
- Collect missing menus via phone and/or in person.
- Update patient kardex file and menus on all patients/residents throughout the day.
- Answer the phone appropriately (identifying yourself/department)
- Put HS snacks for all new diabetics.
- Put tube feeding in the kardex and make label for the next day
- Community life sheet tally for diets.
- Pull appropriate menu based on the diet order in the kardex, edit for patient’s preferences and allergies; then sticker menu with the patient’s name, room number and diet.
- Record late trays (time, patient’s name, diet and request)
- Both AM and PM Diet Clerk: (AM Clerk ONLY)
- Transcribes prescribed meal pattern on menus for renal/renal carbohydrates, fluid restriction and diabetic diets.
- Provides brief explanation of prescribed diet and/or purpose of meal patterns as needed those inquiring about diet.
- Collect Mail.
- Records daily patient census by diet category for department budget reports and meal production forecasting.
- Keep a running inventory of patient menus and maintains adequate supply for daily operations.
- Edit menus once returned to meet requirements of each patient’s diet restriction, patient’s preferences, and allergies.
- Lock up department.
- Tally specials and supplements.
- Participates in departmental process improvement activities relating to office procedures and patient care.
- Assists patients with making acceptable menu selections with their meal pattern.
- PM Clerk:
- Daily HS snack audit diabetic patients and put together nourishment bags.
- Put together patient menu that are going to dialysis and notify starter.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets/food service systems required.
- Previous customer service experience required.
- Customer service orientation.
- Effective communication skills in dealing with customers and other hospital staff.
- Understanding of diet orders/restrictions related to specific diets.
- Computer skills required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
