Our Horticulturalist Team Lead position is a perfect place to use and share your depth of plant knowledge with teammates and clients. As a horticulturalist, you would be able to visit different client sites and assess the health and maintenance needs of their gardens as well as participate in the care of the gardens and training of other team members in proper pruning and plant care. You would work with the Maintenance Consultant to schedule and complete signed work as well as address additional needs on client properties.

Chevalier offers seasonal work from April to November with the opportunity for winter work. We create, build, and maintain outdoor spaces from garden beds to pools to patios and walkways. We’re currently hiring for our Masonry and our Construction Teams. We work Monday-Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM on various projects.

With multiple projects going on at once, new challenges and learning opportunities are always available. We take pride in our work and want all team members to be able to do so as well. There are also opportunities to work in multiple team settings and gain new skills. We help and support each other regardless of what our specific job titles may be.


All team members enjoy weekends off, weekly paychecks, time-and-a-half overtime pay for over 40 hours worked in a week, and up to 40 hours of PTO per year.

Major Job-related Duties/Responsibilities

  • Know the details of the contract, the performance requirements for each client for each project
  • Ability to survey and assess designated project areas and overall job sites, assisting in the planning of jobs in an effective manner to ensure optimum job efficiency and effectiveness
  • Must have a good comprehension and the ability to operate power equipment including, but not limited to, lawn mowing equipment, line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, chainsaws, sod cutters, etc.
  • Understand the proper pruning, growth habits, general fertility requirements, and care of a wide variety of trees, shrubs, woody plants, perennials, grasses, bulbs, and bedding plants. this includes the ability to name, describe and discuss the plants including bloom times, color and duration, general planting tolerances and zones preferred, long-term care requirements, etc.
  • Directly handle skilled pruning and plant care
  • Assign and manage the daily gathering and staging of tools and supplies needed to complete the job at hand
  • Direct all work in garden beds, landscape installations, moving material, site clean-up and disposal of debris
  • Assign daily inspection and recording of equipment and tools used: cleaning, lubricating, sorting, and daily storage
  • Ensure safe working conditions and practices are followed, as well as crew members wearing proper personal protective equipment at all times of work exposure
  • Must be available by phone after hours if needed for planning and clarification of paperwork.
  • Involved directly with hiring, discipline, and subsequent dismissal of crew members where necessary

Minor Job-related Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assisting landscape construction crews as needed to complete various projects and contracts
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment at all times of work; including but not limited to, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and boots, as per company and governmental regulations and laws
  • Complete all paperwork daily about your position and positions reporting to you
  • Communicate and work with operations to ensure proper orientation and training of crews is taking place including documentation of training, safety talks, and courses

Job-related Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license; ability to drive truck/trailer combination
  • Proof of high school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Maintain current CNLP status or proof of other field-specific high-level skills training requiring continuing education credits
  • Preference for a minimum of three years of experience in landscape, construction, or another related field
  • Must pass drug testing
  • Must have own vehicle

Physical Requirements for The Position

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs., walk, stand, crouch, kneel, carry out strenuous physical tasks for prolonged periods and able to physically work shifts greater than 8 hours.
  • Seasonal work may require shifts of 10 hours
