Job Description
Our Home Office Claims Specialist generally handles third-party claims that may present complexity or potentially higher exposure associated with the nature of injuries, damages, coverage or litigation or significant UM/UIM claims through their life-cycle including but not limited to investigation, evaluation and claim resolution. The position may also be called upon to serve in a training and educational capacity. The purpose of this position is to provide service to agents, insureds and others to ensure claims resolve accurately and timely. This is a highly visible position and will at times, interact with senior leadership. This position reports to the Director of Home Office Claims.
Responsibilities
- Investigate assigned claims, confirm coverage, and verify damages
- Recommend and maintain appropriate claim file reserves
- Evaluate, negotiate and settle claims, if warranted
- Assist defense counsel with trial preparation
- Recommend and prepare coverage position letters
- Attend depositions, trials and ADR meetings
- Prepare and distribute training material and conduct training
- Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- 7 to 10 years of experience adjusting third-party liability claims
- Experience handling litigated and/or multi-party claims involving risk transfer
- Ability to analyze coverage and prepare coverage position letters
- Ability to meet continuing education requirements and maintain appropriate adjuster licenses
- Commercial lines experience is required
- Excellent understanding and skill level of claim handling and customer service
- Understanding of policy contracts, insurance laws, regulation, and of the legal environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills
