Job description

Position:
Home Health Aide for joyful young woman with Autism.

Hours: Part time (16 to 32 per week)

Schedule: Flexible and reliable

Pay: 19.50 per hour

What we are looking for in an Applicant:

- Applicant must have the intent of long term engagement and employment.
Please do not apply if you only intend to stay for a few months. Significant
training investment will be made in the successful applicant.

- Patience, willingness to learn Routines, Procedures and execute them independently and consistently.

- Applicant must commit to being trained on communicating in the consumer’s preferred style. This consists of gestures, physical communication and also 10 to
30 specific phrases the consumer uses to converse and communicate. Thorough training is provided.

- Applicants should be reliable and dependable, able to communicate with their teammates and problem solve with a positive attitude, show up on time for their shifts and fill out all documentation and paperwork accurately.

- Personal care with bathing, feeding, dressing and assisting in using the bathroom is needed throughout the day, so applicants must be able to physically perform these tasks. The individual is also very physically active and takes multiple walks a day and rides a special needs tricycle in good weather.

- Must have a reliable and physically accessible vehicle, preferably four door, with a normal sized back seat and working seatbelts. Applicants will be transporting the individual throughout the day on various outings in the community.

- Applicants must be able to remain calm and upbeat at all times and should enjoy having fun and physical activity.

- Applicants must use discretion and protect the individual’s confidentiality, be able to pass a criminal background check, recipients’s rights check and drug test.

- Applicants must be able to keep required documentation up to date when working and fill out necessary timesheets/mileage sheets.

- Applicants should be comfortable passing and documenting medications and applying creams/lotions and ointments daily.

- The individual has seizures that are well managed with medication and
Applicants will be trained extensively on how to assist the consumer with safety during and after seizures.

- The individual is nonverbal and uses gestures, phrases from songs and books they know well, and some sign language to communicate their needs and wants, as well as body positioning. Applicants must be comfortable being trained on how to understand their nonverbal communication. Detailed training is provided.

- This individual enjoys being active in the community. They enjoy going out to eat, taking walks, riding their bike, going to Special Needs Community Dances and events and being around other people. Applicants should be comfortable in social settings and able to assist the individual in fully participating in fun activities the consumer enjoys.

- Following additional screenings, applicants must participate in a Zoom interview with the employer.

- Applicants will be asked to provide references and work history later in the process, before employment.

Training is provided to an Applicant once they have been hired so that they can be confident and successful, and so they can forge a solid relationship with the individual they will be caring for.

The consumer is currently supported by a fun and congenial team of women who get along really well and work well together as a unit, supporting and encouraging one another as they care for the consumer. It is a friendly, fun, positive work environment. The team enjoys their consumer and one another.

About the Individual:

This young woman lives independently in her own home and is cared for by a team of caregivers around the clock. She is never left alone. This person enjoys her favorite Classic
Disney films and children’s shows, certain books, and always is singing to music she enjoys, dancing and laughing. She has a great energy, enjoys people and gives lots of hugs and big, joyful expressions to people she knows well. She is eager to make new friends. The individual spends much of their time in the community going on walks and enjoys riding their special needs tricycle, local parks and businesses and vacationing with their family.

This person follows routines for everything they do, which makes it easier to learn how to care for them, and makes them feel safe and calm as they move through their day. They are well understood by the people who care for them which makes it easier for new people to get to know them; there is always someone who can answer your questions and help guide you to a closer relationship with the individual you will be caring for.
