Job Description
Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the HIV Testing Counselor funded by the DHSP is responsible to implement HIV/AIDS Health Education/Risk Reduction Prevention Services; HIV testing for HIV positive and high risk negative homeless populations; street/community outreach and tracking; and coordination of PrEP Navigation and enrollment for eligible individuals.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted HIV/AIDS health and risk reduction education.
- Provide rapid HIV counseling, testing, and referral services; at DHSP storefront approved sites (Wesley Health Center Clinics and Partner Agencies)
- Conduct STD testing in bathhouses/CSV. (commercial sex venues)
- Completion of all requisition forms, logs and required documentation or data entry.
- Maintain temperature logs, quality assurance logs and documentation up-to-date.
- Link HIV Positive clients to care by providing an appointment at our clinical sites.
- Link clients to primary care services, PrEP navigation, and services offered at Wesley Health Centers.
- Conduct outreach and engage clients and patients to conduct HIV Tests.
- Attend community and staff meetings, as scheduled.
- Maintain testing areas clean and sanitary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Experience working with high risk populations.
- Phlebotomy Certificate.
- Current HIV/AIDS and STI knowledge.
- Certification as an HIV counselor (will train if not certified).
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs (Outlook, excel, word).
- Current California Driver License and ability to drive to program sites.
- Understanding and experience implementing HIV health educational risk reduction curriculum.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
