SalaryPOSITION SUMMARY:
The Histology Technician performs the various procedures employed to generate microscopic slides for our Pathologists.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Twelve (12) months of training in an approved and accredited school of histology is preferred.
- American Society of Clinical Pathologists registered or eligible preferred.
- At least one (1) year of clinical histology experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Have at least one (1) year of histology experience preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
- Must be able to read, speak and write using the English language.

- Processes specimens according to identified procedures in the gross area. Properly identifies patients throughout the accessioning process. Enters and verifies correct patient demographic information from the requisition.
- Performs tissue embedding. Properly identifies patients throughout process.
- Prepares slides and stains according to SOP.
- Maintains equipment and reagents as identified on maintenance schedules.
- Documents all equipment maintenance.
- Troubleshoots equipment and procedures and demonstrates a good working knowledge of equipment functions.
- Performs Quality Control according to established procedures.
- Meets or exceeds the quality guidelines and turnaround times as established by our Pathologists.
