The Lawrenceville School announces a job opening for a History teacher. We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic, collegial individuals who want to work with both adults and students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting.
The Lawrenceville History Department encourages students to understand the nature and methods of historical inquiry as part of their development as critical thinkers, to learn about accounts of the past in order to expand their perspectives on the present, and to encourage their development as well-informed, curious, and engaged global citizens.
Responsibilities- Teach four sections, two to three preparations per trimester.
- Two seasons of coaching or equivalent co-curricular commitment.
- Advise five to eight students, and do one evening a week of "House duty," providing supervision in a student residence from 7-11:30 pm.
- Although not necessarily starting their first year, faculty who reside in School-provided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career.
- Chaperone a weekend activity (dance, coffee house, etc.) at least once per term.
- Work within the department and in the broader school to foster community and belonging and to support the School's mission.
- Work professionally and cooperatively within the department, the School, and the broader Lawrenceville community.
- Bachelor's degree in History; Master's degree preferred.
- At least three years high school teaching experience.
- Ability to teach a range of courses in the History curriculum.
- Demonstrated success planning and facilitating collaborative, student-centered learning experiences.
- Demonstrated success in and commitment to culturally responsive teaching.
- Demonstrated success with effective use of technology in the learning process.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed and appropriate.
- Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite.
