Summary
This is a full-time teaching position in the Social Science and Humanities Academic Area that includes instruction in the following courses: two-semester sequences in Western Civilization and United States History and History elective courses in Native American History, African American History, American Women's History, Michigan History, and Twentieth Century European History. The willingness to develop and teach courses in both traditional and online formats is required. This includes the possibility of teaching night and weekend courses. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop a rapport with students, faculty, and staff, and take a genuine interest in helping each student. This person will display sensitivity toward issues of cultural diversity. This individual must be able to work independently as well as cordially collaborate with others. The successful candidate will build relationships through networking with individuals from the community that can grow into the potential for having the community members share their experiences with NMC and its students both in and out of the classroom.
Qualifications
Required

• Minimum education Master's degree in history
• The willingness to develop and teach courses in both traditional and online formats.

• Community college experience
• Experience with web-based and non-traditional teaching methods
• Experience in teaching Western Civilization and United States History Survey Courses
• Experience in teaching Native American History
• Experience in teaching African American History
• Experience in teaching American Women's History Experience in teaching Michigan History
• Experience in teaching Twentieth Century European History

Essential Responsibilities

Provide classroom/lab instruction to students and develop theory including but not limited to online, accelerated, livestream, hybrid and face-to-face formats

Teaching Responsibilities

When teaching any classroom or lab courses, the instructor will meet the responsibilities of regular faculty in the areas of Curriculum, Teaching Effectiveness, Faculty Professional Development, Support of College, Community Initiatives, and Professional Qualities and Abilities.

• Compiles, administers, and grades examinations and other learning activities
• Uses current and emerging technologies in distance learning and in the classroom; conducts classroom research with classroom assessment techniques
• Listens to students and coaches them to actively participate in the learning process
• Uses a variety of assessments to promotes student demonstration of learning through exams, discussions, debates, presentations, simulations, and/or debriefings
• Provides a course syllabus to the students that includes the College Syllabus information outlined in Moodle
• Is accessible to students during formal office hours and other times as needed
• Maintains and regularly updates Moodle gradebook and/or other electronic grading systems

Faculty Professional Development

Support of College, Community Initiatives

• Participates actively in the shared governance system
• Participates in dental assistant and academic area meetings and other scheduled area activities including participating in writing and supporting accreditation standards
• Meets requirements for faculty evaluation and academic advising Serves on specific academic area and College wide committees
• Supports the academic area and college through other work normally expected of faculty members
• Is fully committed to the mission and values of Northwestern Michigan College

Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
