Physically active position in a laboratory setting with recurrent sitting, standing, and walking. Requires full range of body motion including lifting, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination with frequent computer monitor usage. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
- Recognize when information presented on requisitions is unclear or ambiguous and follow corrective actions to be taken. ·
- Identify specimens that do not meet laboratory acceptability criteria and give to Department Supervisor for reporting.
- Assign computer generated identification numbers, check for accuracy, and verify data entered into Orchard laboratory information system.
- Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory workspace according to established protocols.
- Utilize appropriate resources to answer inquiries for basic customer related issues.
- Understand and follow all company policy and procedures including those relating to safety and quality assurance
- Follow established testing protocols and procedures to ensure quality patient care.
- Embed tissue specimens into paraffin blocks.
- Skillful Microtomy.
- Perform routine HE staining and cover slipping procedures using automated instrumentation.
- Perform immunohistochemistry and in situ-hybridization slide staining using automated instrumentation, including lot validation.
- Prepare solutions and reagents for tissue processors, routine staining, and immunohistochemistry staining.
- Perform quality checks on prepared HE/IHC/ISH slides and route slides to the Pathology Coordinator for distribution or to Pathologists with appropriate clinical paperwork for diagnosis.
- Maintain quality control documentation for all procedures performed as outlined in the Surgical Pathology Procedure Manual.
- May also be assigned to filing requisitions, paraffin blocks, and slides, preparing specimens for storage, assisting with the orientation and training of other employees.

- Qualifications · Meets minimum criteria for education and training as required to perform job duties.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Associates degree at a NAACLS accredited school, or meets CLIA requirements.
- 2+ years pertinent experience required.
- Histology certification preferred.
- Ability to use a computer and enter data efficiently, including Microsoft office programs.
- Advanced knowledge of Orchard laboratory information system preferred.
- Knowledge of eClinical Works EMR preferred.
- Proficient in data entry and record keeping.
- Great attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, reliable, accountable, and conscientious.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Has detailed knowledge of departmental equipment and ability to troubleshoot when problems arise.
- Understand departmental QC process and have the ability to troubleshoot with the departmental supervisor to resolve or improve the process.
- Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.
